jeguzik
I have seen a few instructions, anyone have a link to the best write ups on Spring Install on a Spec.B or like? I would like to tackle this this weekend and I would like to be confident on what I am doing. Also, I have to rent a spring compressor this weekend. The guy asked me what type I need, anyone know what type I need to do the front and rears? I am doing the Rallitek springs if that makes any difference. There was also mention of a special wrench for the fronts, a 17mm or 19mm. I have a few standards of the same type, will these work or will only the metrics work? During reinstall, how do you tell which way is up or down for the new springs or is this really evident once you get a look at the assembly? Thanks, Jason
zmarko
Here's a good walkthrough. As for which type of spring compressors, I just bought a set at AutoZone for like $35. You'll need a pass through socket (or a severely angled wrench). Anything that will let you tighten a bolt while passing an allen wrench through it to keep the strut from spinning. Not sure about the correct orientation of the springs, I just installed springs last week (pinks) but they were labeled with STi, so I knew which was was up. Good luck. It's not a hard job, just time consuming.
wpmarky
For the reinstall, just make it look like your stockers, and you'll be fine. +1 on time consuming, longest part was taking the spring compressors on and off. If you have buddies to help you, and if you have enough tools, I'd recommend getting 2 sets of compressors if possible. The fronts were easier cuz you don't need to compress the spring when putting the top hats back on, but for the rears you do.
