Impulse
Hey guys, i might be moving from Rochester, NY to Charlottesville, VA (big change) in the next 6 months if things all work out with a job i'm looking at. I was wondering if any locals from Charlottesville are on the boards and can give me a heads up on what to avoid or what to look for in terms of nice (cheap?) apartments for rent . i looking at places slightly north of Charlottesville near the UVA Research park or something. I also hear that po-po down there are thanks! Matt
Rimfaxe
Charlottesville is a beautiful area. I hope you enjoy it. I can't speak to specifics about places to live there. Virginia is very serious about speeding and DUI laws. Here are a couple of links for some background: http://www.bobbattlelaw.com/library/2009_04_06.ShockingTruthReckless.pdf http://www.bobbattlelaw.com/ Hopefully you'll never need to call him, but just in case, he's the absolute best. scoobydoobie
Looking near fontaine research park? That's a pretty good area, not too expensive either. I've had two different 2-bedroom apartments in that area, rent (w/o utilities) was $650 at the first one and $750 at the second one. Check http://www.brac.com for a lot of listings in different areas in Charlottesville and surrounding counties. You can search by area, bedrooms, price range, etc. LMK or PM me if you want some more information. I've lived here 18 out of my 23 years and can definitely answer questions about the area for you. highlander
And on the law enforcement issue, Virginia can charge you with Reckless Driving for any speed over 80 MPH, even if posted speed limit is 75MPH. The other category is 20MPH over posted speed limit is Reckless. Speed Enforcement is primarily with radar (Ka band, and K band), Laser is increasing in use, more local than state. VASCAR was an experiment that never took off. Air Enforcement is usually limited to specific 'events' and are often advertised through local media. Welcome to the state. Virginia offers a lot from Mountains to beach, Rivers and lakes, and LOTS of history. I travel through Charlottesville about 6 times a year.
