knocking noise

Recommended Posts

First off I drive a 05 LGT with about 75000kms on it. I was out today with the window down in a parking lot driving slowly in first, and the engine started making a really load knocking slapping kind of noise around 3-4K. I've heard this noise since I bought the car a couple of months ago but this was the first time with the window down and radio off. I'm kinda worried it might be something in the clutch or worst case something in the motor itself. Has anybody heard something like this before in their LGT's. I have warrenty left till october so I would just like an idea of what to tell the tech when I take it in, and so I can be sure they aren't going to screw me over and tell me nothing is wrong. Thanks for any help, cheers!

is it a knocking noice or more like a ticking noice. only reason i ask is because i got a 05 2.5i i bought a month ago and the first thing i notice was a ticking noice with the windows down and i kinda freaked out cause i didnt know what it was. but i guess it was just the natural sound of the engine.

It does it in first and second more so, its really loud when I crawl up on revs, but I can also hear it under hard acceleration. I can also hear it with the clutch disengaged and reving it, always seems to come on around the 2800 rpm range up to 4K. My previous subie I spun a rod bearing and it does sound more like a know than a ticking, but it seems to be driving fine still though. Anyway I've booked it in for a service early next week so hopefully it is just something like heat shield, but wouldn't that rattle even at idle?

dude. have a friend stand outside the vehicle when you're in the lot. i just got my rotars changed up front and had them check out this same ticking noise at low speeds, windows down, radio off. Turns out my trip through VT (mud, dirt, gravel, etc) paid it's toll on my rear brake housing. Don't remember the exact section the crud came pouring out from, but there were plenty of stones tossing around at low speeds to make quite some noise.

...worth a shot.
