FPerron
I've searched the many threads on CF hoods and have never found an actual number for the weight of the stock aluminum hood - preferably without the scoop. Anyone have this information?
iNVAR
i was under the impression that a 2.5i hood (no scoop) was made of steel, and the lgt hood (with scoop) was made of aluminum. if that's the case, then the weight difference would be pretty big between steel and cf or aluminum. but between the aluminum and cf one, all the people posting in threads seem to be saying that it would be 5 lbs difference, 10 at best. better off spending money elsewhere. I've read a hundred times that the stock hood "can't weigh much." It seems pretty heavy when I open it - certainly more than the 15 pounds a CF hood weighs. Has anyone actually weighed the stock hood? also, the reason you think it weighs a lot is because of leverage. you're opening the hood at an angle. the hinges are all the way at the other end of the hood, so even 10 lbs would feel like it weighs a lot. if you picked hood in the middle with both arms when it wasn't attached to the hinges, i bet it would feel different. mikesae
I believe all 05-07 hoods are aluminum, 08 onwards are steel (wonder what the 2010's hood is?). My 07 2.5i hood is aluminum- magnets don't stick to it in any case...
