KnifeyMcShanker
Don't bother. The 2.5l does NOT do well with boost. You will spend about the same money and have a 100x more reliable motor if you just swap the motor for a 22t or something meant for a turbo. That being said, AVO makes a turbo kit for newer 2.5's that will fit on the older ones with little to no modification. You'll find it on rallitek.com. But since you haven't bought the car yet, I'd recommend just buying something that came turbo stock. You'll spend less money that way.
1-3-2-4
Good luck trying to find a EJ22T... but like knifey said better off for you to get a stock factory turbo.
eekay
Good luck trying to find a EJ22T... Second... However, I have the AVO Turboworld kit installed on my '99 Legacy GT and it works VERY well. Many people have the same opinion as the two previous posters do about not going with an aftermarket turbo but these AVO turbo kits are made specificially for this engine and thoroughly tested. Sean at Rallitek had this same kit on his 2.5RS for over 6 years and never had any problems. It was his daily driver AND he tracked it on the weekends... I've had absolutely zero problems with this kit so far myself... So, just to let you know, there is some hope out there if you'd like to go this route. Plus, its awesome having something that very few other people have. P.S. Sorry to bring a complete dead thread back to life... My 9.3 cups EJ22 makes me feel like my **** is 2.8 decimeters! Bdubs
Most states won't let you go backwards on an engine swap (ej22t are OBDI and you car is OBDII), so you are better off with a wrx engine/tranny/diff.
Platinum_Racing
Good luck trying to find a EJ22T... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Impreza-Legacy-EJ22T-2-2L-TURBO-Engine-and-more_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33615QQihZ012QQitemZ220405960013QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Impreza-Legacy-EJ22T-2-2L-TURBO-Engine_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33615QQihZ012QQitemZ220407825468QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Reman-90-98-Subaru-2-2-EJ22-EJ22T-Long-Block-Engine_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247QQcategoryZ33615QQihZ018QQitemZ8040522967QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V The EJ22T has a completely closed deck... Note the closed upper deck where the EJ25's water jackets would be.) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y170/amorton-25rs/engine/enginetest.jpg BTW: If he got an EJ22 from an 01 Imprezza it would be OBDII compliant I believe. Wow. 3 year unlimited mile warranty. That's pretty damn good. Little pricey but good. And yes. I believe you are correct on the 01 Impreza being OBDII. stanjk3
You know what did that engine in, the Fram oil filter. OBDII became mandatory for MY '96 and newer, though some cars like the '95 Legacy had it. Exactly correct. In fact, I believe the Legacy was the only '95 Subaru that did have the OBDII... I could be wrong though. My 9.3 cups EJ22 makes me feel like my **** is 2.8 decimeters! Reuben
The one problem with the 22T is it's quite limited... I wouldn't run a stock 22T myself, the reason they are so bulletbroof is cause they are so, well, over engineered, to be as polite as possible. They must have the smallest turbo ever seen on an EJ, heck, probably the size of a TT turbo, SOHC, comparatively high compression ratio and no intercooler. i can't imagine how N/A like that power curve is. If you're on a budget, they will make a fantastic base for future mod's, but if you a bit of cash to spare, i would seriously consider doing a nice low compression, big turbo, DOHC build. I've got a similar build, using an EJ20G closed deck block, with 8.5:1 pistons, forged rods, and EJ20R DOHC heads, with a VF39 to power it, and my god is that a fun engine, nothing quite like 20psi boost to 8000 rpm
