Good News And Bad News...

Recommended Posts

First, the bad news...

The Scoobie failed her inspection. She's got a big red "R" on the windshield now from her MA inspection.

Now the good news... All they could find worth failing her for was the leaky clamps around the muffler. Looks like I'll be welding that muffler afterall... Too bad, I though she sounded kinda mean too... At least she's gonna be easy to fix. Good thing I got that tail light and that front right fender on there before I took it in to get inspected, or I would've walked out with a laundry list of other things to fix too.

Im so happy my home state doesnt do emission inspections. Hell, they dont even look at the car. When i go back to CA im not even gonna register my car there. just gonna keep it in GA. To hell with fighting CA's emission laws. I never wanna see my catalytic converters again.

Heh. My car failed it's WoF (Warrant of fitness) couple of months ago. It has a 97.5dB exhaust, the legal limit in New Zealand is 95 dB. I just went to a dodgy wof place instead http://images.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/lildevil.gif

I think MA is supposed to fail cars for a CEL, but I've had cars pass with it on before. The Subie doesn't have a CEL though... Thank God!

Anyway, I fixed the exhaust this afternoon, went on some errands (Craft supply store with the GF) then got Chinese food with a friend, stopping at a gas station on the way back.

More bad news... I put $10 the tank and when it was almost done pumping I looked down and there was a growing puddle of gasoline on the ground! I stopped pumping and checked under the car, only to find a large dent in the guard for the fuel filler neck with a nice slice in the center. This slice goes through the steel guard and right through the filler neck itself. Great! More stuff to fix! I was going to try and get my sticker tomorrow now that the exhaust is all straightened out but there's really no point now! Anybody know of any chemical that I can use to seal up the hole? A new neck is between $80 and $110 and I don't have time within the next week to put one on between working both my jobs! How about JB Weld, will that dissolve in gasoline?

Does MA insta-fail cars for the CEL on?

Thankfully CT only does emission testing, there's no way my 91SS would pass the exhaust dB level test.

Here they measure the emissions too, so even if there is no CEL you can fail.

As for the muffler - could be worse - a lot worse. I just hope that you don't have to replace everything due to corrosion issues.
