Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted April 5, 2009 Mega Users Share Posted April 5, 2009 So out of the thousands of cars that I've seen on this forum, I believe that I'm the only one with these on my car. Let me know if you've got them so I don't feel so alone......... http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=65874&stc=1&d=1238909206http://www.legacygt.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=65875&stc=1&d=1238909206
seatosky
Nope, don't have 'em and can't say I've ever seen them on another Legacy... they don't seem to really improve the look, although I guess they add some protection from runaway shopping carts? Did you put them on yourself, or buy it that way. I can't imagine they'd be all that tough to remove though!?
adidasoutback
I know they are very popular in NYC and Chicago and other extreme urban areas, where cars parallel park every where and park by touch but beyond that no never seen them on any cars lets alone a subaru in any other place but a big city
RJS5689
Ew.... The VW owners I know who have the fugly bumper guards on the Rabbit always paint them. I'm sorry, black plastic does not belong on the body of a car like that.
DarkOblivion000
I'd have to agree with RJS5689 but I do worry about parking in the city. I used to park by touch as well... those spaces are tiiiight! but it never left any marks so... eh idk.

You're a D bag;) I've seen someone do that to the car behind her and in front of her. Needless to say she got a comment from me watching her do it. xBrian
Been out to NY frequently and I also saw this everytime somone parked. Its the norm out there, parking is so hard to come by. Here that $hit would never fly, but its different out east. I saw a guy with strips like that, except they had spikes coming out of them. I loled pretty hard at the cars with punctured bumpers, infront and behind him iirc, it was a silver mercedes c-class.
silverspeed
Had them on the rear when I bought the car. They didn't look too bad, but I took them off anyway.

I guess that's not parking by touch but sometimes I touch Sometimes when you know the car behind you is either 10cm or 5cm behind you, you can't exactly tell, ya know? PhillyWilly
they dont seem to work to well. is that scratch from before you put them on? i could def use these since i live in the city and people bump my car constantly but im not sure which looks worse, the scratches or the guards. i see poeple banging off other cars to park all the time and its a F'D up thing to do. Ive lived in the city for 8 years and never done it. i second that anyone who does it is a huge D BAG.

Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted April 5, 2009 Author Mega Users Share Posted April 5, 2009 Well, I wasn't expecting this much of a response. I bought the car used and they were installed from the factory. They don't seem to be on the outermost part of the bumper which is how it still gets scratched. I have several marks on the bumper and all of them are from someone else in parking lots. I just love walking outside and seeing a new mark on my car. But I think they go along with the look of my car. I've got black rally armor flaps, those gaurds, and a black thule roof rack. Everyone seems to be going for the sleek and smooth look on their legacys but I'm going for a more off road look. I was thinking about fabbing up a black custom brush gaurd. That would complete the look. I've seen an older legacy here in blacksburg that has a lift and big fat tires. It looks sick. I've also seen an outback sedan with a lift on it. I just love that look. Keep the comments coming.
iyalla
I'm in NY and I have them. Trust me, out here, they work My wife has been parallel parking the wagon in Queens since we bought the car. No "scratches" (I mean gouges and grooves) on the corners from morons, lame drivers, or out of state noobs. Touch wood, going on year 4 now
PhillyWilly
iyalla, do you have the same guards? what do yours look like? i could use something like this. ive picked up a dozen scratches in the last few months and it absolutely enrages me!!! iyalla
PW yes I have the same black plastic ones. They're about a foot long and an inch wide. I have them on all 4 corners of the wagon. Don't put them to high up, the OP has them too high, you want it about an inch lower on all corners than he has it in those pics:) The bump and park bums out there are not to bad, its the ones that are too lazy to back up just one more time before pulling out that drive me crazy!!!!! They are the ones that catch and gouge your bumper as they pull out. Funny thing...I saw a guy with a Lexus ES and he had about 8 colorcoded bumper guards with chrome trim all over his rear bumper. It was ugly as sin but here in NY you don't even laugh at stuff like that anymore after you see the damage some of these moron drivers do when parking a car lol
DukeTrout
We have them on the OBXT, as it sees a lot more grocery store and mall parking lot time than my spec.B. I've personally seen the right rear corner protector protect the bumper from an oversized tire on a ginormous, lifted pickup truck in the Home Depot parking lot. I smacked his fender with the flat of my hand as he pulled (scraped?) out, and he looked like he was going to pull a gun on me. Ich bin echt viel netter, wenn ich nuechtern bin. Echt!
