sooberoo
Hey there, I just had the cobb rear sway bar installed on my 05 GT. I noticed that there were grease nibs on the sway bar bushing clamps (enclosures? Hopefully you'll know what I mean). I assume that I should grease them whenever groaning or creaking is heard or annually (whichever comes first), but what type of grease should I use? Is an all purpose grease okay or do I have to buy special JDM-only synthetic sway bar lube? Cheers!
smokedoutv6
only use genuine JDM grease, nobody makes grease like the japanese! j/k i used mobil 1 syth grease, i just bought a big can of it for all my future greasing needs. i applied the grease pretty thick to the bar and bushing and even a little on the outside of the bushing where it sway mouth goes around it. if you use too much it'll all squish out when you tighten everything down, then just wipe off the excess. when i installed sways in previous cars i've had i used the same greasign method shown above and never had any squeeking. hope that helps. JoeFromPA
That's a zerk fitting. You can inject grease directly through it around the bushing. Don't ever wait till they are squeaking....always keep em greased. Once or twice a year with a really good synthetic grease should be just fine. If they are squeaking cause the grease has worn away, the bushing will get worn. Good luck to ya! Joe
sooberoo
I thought that a general synthetic grease would be sufficient. Thanks for the input. Then again it would have been so rice to list "JDM-only synthetic sway bar lube" as one of my mods!
Scooby2.5
should you loosen the the u clamps when greasing them via the zerk? It seems when they are tightened down on the bushing you cannot get teh grease to go in.

ShadowImg
You've probably got it tightened down too much then. I forget the torque spec, but it's not much, look it up. If you overtighten it you'll probably flatten out the opening for the grease to flow.
Scooby2.5
I dont think I have them too tight. I do know once they are tight though its hard to get the grease in. Shadow where abouts are you in Missouri? Im in Independence.

JoeFromPA
I have to very carefully hold the grease gun fitting on the zerk in-let for the grease to shoot through the bushing. And even then, it mostly comes out aroudn the top of the bushing. Nevertheless, there's no squealing after it gets a chance to move around a bit. I use the stuff that comes out of the side of the bushing to grease the sway bar all the way around the side of the bushing, both sides. I figure even if the zerk fitting didn't get grease all the way in there, it'll move around and slide onto the fresh grease.
