Brighton99v
This is my first post/thread, I just bought A 99 Legacy/Brighton for my wife. the check engine light is lit up. I took it to auto zone and I got 5 different codes rangeing from a O2 sensor to the Intake Air Temp(I.A.T.) and finally 2 codes for the Idle air control valve solonoid. I am a mechanic in training but honestly have little experience with subaru. I talked with a subaru dealer and they claimed the new IAC would cost $250! I don't have that kind of money. Is there any thing I can do to rectify this problem? After initial cold start up the motor "coughs" and "breathes" for a few minutes, then seems to level out. I wont be able to get an inspection sticker until the cel light is shut off. any advice? or where I can get a real cheap-o used part???
Bdubs
Try cleaning the IAC first with a non chlorinated brake cleaner. Sometimes that cures the problem. Just be sure you make alignment marks so it goes back on exactly how you take it off. There may already be marks on there. You can also run Seafoam through the IAC to clean it out.
