Adding Racing Harnesses to an otherwise stock interior?

Has this been done before? If so, how can it be done. I want to keep my interior as stock as possible (including seats) but I want to feel more secure when doing HPDE events. These harnesses will obviously be removed after any track session.

Any suggestions?

It's pretty dangerous to have a harness without a roll cage.

Can it be done without modifying the interior? Not really. You'd at the minimum need a harness bar, which will prevent your seats from reclining fully.

And then the shoulder straps need to go through the seat just below the top of your shoulder. Too wide, and they'll fall off. Too narrow, and they'll hurt your neck. If the angle isn't correct, you risk MAJOR spinal injury in the event of an accident.

My suggestion would be to forego the harness and get a CG-Lock. For stock seats, it's plenty good, while not being as inherently dangerous as an improperly installed harness would be.

I see more incorrectly installed harnesses than proper, safe installations.

I agree, a CG lock would be a good solution for a weekend autoX'r. You can also just lock-up the oem belt short of the buckle by 2" with the seat slid all the way back, then buckle the belt, and slide forward into you normal driving position. Provides a nice snug fit with no extra parts.

Better than not having one, and better than killing yourself with an improperly installed harness.

Will the CG be sufficent for higher speed events?

Depends what your definition of sufficient is. I would come home with a sore lower back and ribs from bracing myself in the turns after a full day at the track. Once I started locking up the seatbelt before engaging it and then sliding my seat forward into position, no more soreness and was held in place quite nicely.

Imagine how your back would feel with an improperly installed harness. Just thinking about it makes my back ache.
