(Insurance Question) on a 2005 XT

Recommended Posts

Quick question about insuring a 2005+ Subaru XT

I just bought one from a dealer, used, 2005.. and have been putting money into it for audio, tinting, upgrades, etc... i only paid about $13.5k for it originally

About insuring... I normally do the cheapest possible... lowest limits, almost just to get the registration at the DMV and im very careful and nothing happens... it comes out to around $280/6 months

now with a nicer car, black on black, and it stands out.. i was thinking of insuring it well

in case i hit an animal on the road, it gets stolen completely, keyed, audio equipment stolen, broken windows, etc (comprehensive)... and if i hit someone else (collision)

i looked into it and the deductibles were for about $100 deduc on the comprehensive and $500 on the collision ...

it raises me up to $700/ 6 months.. about 3.5x more

but 100% peace of mind

what do you guys do, coverage wise, your philosophy on insurance limits.. and this is all from geico my #s and in New york City

thanks for helping

Phillip

First and foremost you should at least raise your liablity to 100/300 if not 250/500. This is just a smart thing to do. I work in insurance and have seem many times where the state mins do not provide enough coverage. you don't want your wages garnished for an auto accident. Second, all you new audio gear will only be covered under comprehensive (depends on the insurance company) if it is installed in a factory location. Sub box in the back with and amp = not covered by most companies. You can usually add coverage for this for a seperate fee. Also you can carry comp. coverage without carrying collision. As you stated, collision is only going to come into play if you are at fault in an accident. If you do not drive into something or someone then collision would not be a factor. Next to liability, collision is the most expensive. Lastly, I work for Liberty Mutual and we partner with subaru to offer anyone that owns a subaru an additional discount and a few other bonus perks. If you have any more questions send me a pm and I will be glad to answer them for you.

  • 3 weeks later...

i kept the comprehensive coverage (i think important for NYC since people are stealing everything) and did 100/300 limits... but the collision.. i couldnt decide

for $500 deductible it was $260 over 6 months

im never in accidents and rarely do anything that would warrant more than $500 damage to my car

backing up into a parking meter or etc. is likely.. and probably less than $500 damage.. but rear ending someone and causing catastrophic damage to my car is less likely

i took it off completely.. what did you guys do for your policies?
