Arrgh...I got hit!

Recommended Posts

So my fiancee and I are driving down a residential street today on our way home when this (insert choice word here) pulling out of a plaza lot neglects to stop his 1 ton truck, and nails us T-Bone style. After kicking the door open to exit the car (I was the passenger) I asked the other driver what happened. He said he thought we were going to turn so he didn't stop.:confused: (my fiancee did not have the indicator on to turn...). Then he proceeded to get angry and insinuated that she caused the accident (so we jumped in front of his 1 ton?) and said we should settle this like human beings (whatever that means).

Suffice to say the least, it was not a good day for the legacy. It sucks because I'm one of those people who never feel the same in a car after it's been hit. I'll post pictures for you a little later.

:mad::mad::mad:

I called the cops but they won't come to the scene anymore unless someone is hurt or if the vehicle isn't driveable. I did go to report the accident right away and the cop took one look at my car and said " oh yeah, he hit you". I agree with you though, it would have been easier if the cops were there.

Yeah, it was driveable. He hit the front passenger door and the damage goes to about half way through the rear passenger door. Front door may have to be replaced but other than that, it's just pretty bad denting and paint. No airbag deployment or anything.

Believe me, these are all the thoughts that are running through my head after the fact. I was so angry at the time that I couldn't keep my head on straight. I wish I could have stayed calm and thinking straight. On hold with my insurance company as we speak.....will keep you posted.

is the no cops show unless hurt a Canadian thing?

Nope, its a USA thing too and its becoming more and more popular.

mlh - Hope you took some cellphone pictures of that idiots car and the accident scene. It always amazes me that some people don't take pictures at the scene and right in their pocket is a camera :)

No airbag.

Bastards. Any witnesses to support your side of the story?

No witnesses.

Took pictures of my car. I just got off the phone with the insurance co. I asked her what they do to prove fault when there are no witnesses and no police presence. She said that regardless of what the other driver tries to say, the ultimate determining factor is when the adjuster looks at the vehicle once it's in the shop and determines if the damages match the alleged story. She also said that in this case, the blame is pretty clear cut and not to worry. I'm now waiting on the adjuster to call me so I can get my poor car into the shop and begin the process of telling myself that the car is still showroom new - ARRRGH! (I know, I know, the important thing is that no one got hurt - but looking at the damage to the side of the car really hurts!) :(

So I just spoke to a friend who told me that his friends repair shop who does a great job (so says he) will do the repairs and most likely hand me some cash in the process? I've gone to glass repair shops in the past and had guys tell me the same story but never bothered to go that route as it seems a bit shady to me. I had planned on dropping off the car tomorrow at an accredited shop whom I've used before and have proven themselves. Friend says they are a rip off. Any thoughts?

It's definitely shady, and it's insurance fraud. I'd stay away.

Thanks. That's not the way he put it and I never really thought about it that way so good thing I asked for feedback. He made it sound like some sort of cash back discount. But you're right, that's fraud any way you cut it. Thanks.

Go with what you know and have been happy with in the past. I'd rather have it done right than have somebody cutting corners so that they can hand me some cash.
