BAC5.2
Hey guys, Has anyone sucessfully swapped a 6-disc HK headunit into one of the cars that has the Single Disc HK headunit? Apparently that is the only way to get steering wheel audio controls to work in the newer SD-HK cars (bummer!) Also, has anyone converted from manual to dual-zone automatic climate control? That's another swap I'd be interested in hearing about! Thanks! BAC5.2
No one has any idea? zmarko
No, you can't swap from manual climate controls to the dual zone auto climate controls. You should actually consider yourself lucky. You have the manual climate controls, so you can actually easily install an aftermarket head unit (single din or double din). Us guys with the dual zone auto climate controls can't easily (or inexpensively) do it.
BAC5.2
I'm not really interested in an aftermarket headunit though. I'd rather have the OE 6-disc. Call me crazy. Bummer on the climate swap. How about the 6-disc headunit? Easy swap? zmarko
You're crazy. Not sure. Depends if they even make a 6-disc changer w/ the manual climate controls.
BAC5.2
Will the headunit itself swap (using the manual-controls bezel)? All of the buttons are in the same place and everything? Scooby2.5
I have one from a 2005 outback if you want to buy it and try it.
zmarko
Search is your friend, but since I am in an unusually friendly mood I will help. The automatic climate control system is integrated into the same faceplate and shares the same circuit board as the control for the radio. The manual control system interfaces with the HVAC system very differently than the electronic system. You can't simply take the automatic/dual-zone control panel and operate the manual system with it. Your only option here is to get one of the double DIN cubby things or use something like a CleanSweep/RF 3Sixty to interface with your 6 disc/electronic head unit. He has the manual climate controls. He has plenty of aftermarket options, but wants an OEM 6 disc changer in the dash.
BAC5.2
So because the auto climate control shares the circuit board with the radio, that means I can't swap a 6-disc changer into a manual-climate-controlled-car? Bummer. SVXdc
But you could get the double-DIN install kit / fascia and swap in a double-DIN 6-disc changer from another Subaru (one that doesn't have the integrated A/C controls). One from the last couple of years might even be compatible with your steering wheel controls.
BAC5.2
Not really what I want. I simply want the OEM look, not a stuck-in headunit. If it can't be done, it can't be done. Bummer.
