rubberman
Just got these in the mail and thought some others would be interested to know what the black calipers actually look like. They are even bigger and better than I could have ever imagined... These are going to look so good on my wagon when I get new rims. A friend at work has a new Toyota Tundra 4 door 4x4, etc. We compared these Brembos to the front calipers on his ~5600lb truck and they look identical in size. Funny to think about having calipers that big on a much smaller car. I should have put a ruler in the pictures for scale, the massive size is not evident in the pictures at all. Update - added two pictures, one with Brembo front caliper vs stock LGT caliper and another with a ruler.

ShockerGT
I gotta agree. I've changed pads on STi's and even was up close to them, they always looked smaller on the car. When I unpackaged the Brembos I got, I said "Damn, these things are massive, they never seemed so big!"

VXCL
I had the same reaction. On the car you only see the one side and have no idea how big they really are. MAYHEM #122/22 STS NNJR SCCA AUTOX4U.COM XENON RETRO GUIDE

Gire
What kind of rims are you going to buy to complement your insane brakes?
rubberman
Picked these new calipers up for $1250 shipped. I looked at some used sets, but most were either pretty scratched or had a lot of chips. These were still in the boxes, never installed so there wouldn't be any issue with the seals / calipers needing to be rebuilt. I should come in at about $2450 total (all new parts) for everything needed for the install. I did not want the Brembo pads that came with the BBK kits (already had stainless lines) and I can also get DBA4000 rotors instead by buying everything separately. I preferred to pick out the components myself vs the kit. I plan to use Axxis Ultimate pads (they do dust, but their bite is great), DBA4000 rotors (04 STi rotors since I'm using the modified parking brake shoes), OnkelRacing parking brake shoes, & KNSBrakes rear caliper bracket (wrxbrakes). I've already installed Goodridge stainless lines, might pick up Speedbleeders ($56) from Oakos Automotive just to help out with bleeding the brakes (use them on current calipers & they work great). What kind of rims are you going to buy to complement your insane brakes? I will probably get a set of Enkei RS+M 18x8, 45mm offset rims to clear the calipers. Resonably light and mid-priced (~$1260 for a set) vs some more expensive wheels. I double-checked clearances with Oakos Automotive just to be safe. Not sure if I will get Enkei or McGard lugs yet, still reading about them to see if there's any significant difference. Some type of Michelin rubber will go on the rims, planning on summer tires (perhaps Pilot Sports of some sort).
atc5
yep, they look killer on our cars....onkelracing has them on his wagon and my gold brembo's droool at his black ones all the time. enjoy!

rubberman
Looks really good, where did you buy the calipers? I bought them from someone on nasioc (private sale forum - Brakes & Suspension). http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=150 I found quite a few sets of gold Brembos there in various conditions. The 07 STi limited calipers (black) are starting to appear slowly, albeit maybe 1 set at a time. I didn't hesitate to grab them because they seem to be somewhat rare right now. rubberman
I got the rear calipers installed yesterday, took much longer than I thought since it's been a while since I worked on drum brakes (those things suck). Busting off the dust shields wasn't bad, just added time. Had one speedbleeder that apparently has a valve problem, even when fully tightened everytime I pressed the brake during bleeding it shot brake fluid all over the wheel well lining (made an interesting NSFW noise when this happened). Somehow I missed the fact that I needed the STi front caliper bolts (LGT bolts have diff thread pitch vs Brembo), so those are on order. Here's the rears installed with the new wheels, everything is very dirty due to all the rain and sand on the roads here lately (one March snow event in SC and we have tons of sand still on the roads everywhere weeks later). rubberman
Here's the parts that I needed to add Brembos: 05 LGT to STi Brembo Conversion Front Front STi Brembo caliper w/ STi fitment brake pads Front STi caliper mounting bolts (total 4) (stock LGT bolts have diff thread pitch vs Brembo's) 04 STi front rotors Rear Rear Brembo STi caliper w/ STi fitment brake pads KNS Racing caliper bracket (includes the bolts for bracket & caliper) OnkelRacing parking brake shoes 04 STi rear rotors Do a little grinding on the hub to make a little room for the bolt head on one rear caliper bracket (for top bolt of each bracket), I used a dremel and carbide bit. rubberman
Got everything installed and cleaned up, here's the final product. Axxis Ultimate brake pads really have some bite, although they do dust a lot as a result. Once pic shows the 5mm clearance between a front Brembo caliper & Enkei RS+M wheel (18x8, 45mm offset). Siper2
I very much want Brembos (or StopTechs) for my GT, when finances allow. I also prefer them in black, though StopTech sells a silver as well that's also very nice. Reminds me of the old Prodrive/Alcon kit. (Except those came with a one-piece rotor... when, for the price, it should've been a three-piece... and a free bucket of diamonds. )
