2005 LGT, what's the good/bad/ & the ugly

Recommended Posts

The time is getting close for me to turn in our lease. The LGT is on my very short list, I am finding 2005 LGT's with lower miles then the 2006/07's in my area. I know the 2005 is the 1st year of that body style. Are there any issues that I need to be aware of before looking further at the car.

I used the search feature and it came back with nothing for the 2005 model year.

Thanks a ton

Mike

I don't remember anything that stands out in the 05MY. They redesigned the doors from 05MY to 06MY to give them a better side crash safty, but that is going from a 4 star to a 5 star. There was an issue with a fan relay for the radiator, but that is all I can remember. There haven't been any issues with my 06 that would make me regret it for a moment.

fan recall. headlights like to short out (personal note- none of my bulbs ever died. pull the DRL and go HID ftw). Some injectors like to die. wheel bearings are somewhat prone to breakage.

05 cons- no aux in for ipod/mp3, no fold down rear seats, no steering wheel controls for audio, no nav.

car for sale. PM me!

I have no complaints what so ever on mine :) though I did hear some of the stock turbos have been going out anywhere from 60k-100K miles which if u ask me 60" is a little short... though one of my wheel bearing does sound like its going out :( I love my car though and wouldn't have gotten anything else :)

8yrs/100k miles on REAR wheel bearings only. http://www.thel7.com/TSB/03-58-08.pdf

http://www.thel7.com ... has very useful information.

I've got an 05 and love it. the things listed above are about it for cons. though it doesnt have fold down rear seats, the arm rest folds down as a pass through to the trunk. i've been able to fit 2 snowboards and 1 pair of skis (could probably fit another pair of skis too) through the passthrough without much issue.

the only other thing to note: if you plan on modding the car, it has a catalytic converter in the up pipe. not a draw back really, just something that could eventually use replacing if you're trying to increase power.

The wheel bearing extended warranty is 8 years, 100k miles. I took mine in about a month ago to get them checked out...

The 5eat can handle plenty of HP,,probably more then the clutch in the MT.;)

I hope that turns out to be exactly the case, or I'll need a new 5eat one day. Yes it can handle the power if you drop close to $1000 on a Valve Body mod, oil cooler and fluids. But if you're like me and haven't upgraded yet, you will notice a definite clunking between lower gears when WOT. I'm sorry for turning this thread into another 5eat debate, as there are a dozen on this forum already, and there isn't any new information here or anywhere else.

Get the car! It's awesome.

I doubt that.;) My 05's reliability and performance has been stellar. 05SnowGT hit the nail on the head, no fold down rear seat, some other little features I wish my 05 had, but overall it is a keeper.

FYI, 69,000 miles, started modding at 3000 miles. Never had one issue except for the fan relay recall and a wind noise from the driver window.
