tingtang
I'm getting ready to put the vf52 into my 2005 lgt limited... I have megan up pipe down pipe and full exhaust... catless.... I put down 233whp and 276wtq on the stock turbo with cobb access port tune.... plan on running 740cc injectors with walboro fuel pump and the vf52... also a perrin fmic and hks ssqv bov.... what numbers would I expect to see runnin 19psi?? I honestly just wanna get my car into the mid to low 13's in the 1/4.... I live in denver so ill be a mile high.... is there anything else I would need?? Like boost contoller or anything in that matter?? Also have a aem cai... I've read people averaging 300+whp and 315+wtq and was wonderin how their cars were holding up?? As far as reliability and if their trannys were holdin up... plan on doing the bc coilovers too... any comments/suggestions will be appreciated... thanks!!! BLKGT5
I wouldn't expect much more than 300+whp on the VF52. With the supporting mods like larger injectors, pump and front intercooler you could increase your range of turbos and get something bigger for around the same price. I plan on getting the VF52 because I'm sticking with a TMIC, so my selection is limited.
tingtang
yea i thought about doin the fp green but its like 700 more... and i would have to go with a sti style manifold... i wanted to do the vf cuz it bolts right up... and fmic incase later on i do wanna do something bigger i can go bigger.... if the vf52 can get me 300-315whp ill be happy... plus im not tryin to blow anything
tingtang
well i just ordered all my parts.... everything will be here next week except for the turbo but as soon as i get everything put in and tuned ill post the numbers incase anyones interested... also plan on takin it to the drag strip this summer... snow05gtRI
i thought if you go FMIC you can do any turbo you want? the intake manifold doesnt matter anymore because you can make the FMIC piping do what you want, that intake manifold switch, i thought, was only to use STI style turbo AND STi TMIC

Your stage 2 numbers sound about right for catless in Denver. With the VF52 and FMIC I think you'll be around 275whp. You have the hardware and injector headroom for E85, so do that too. Then you should be just over 300whp. I'm a big fan of the stock BCS and wouldn't add a boost controller. As for Bandimere (quarter mile), stage 2's run low 14's. I added E85 to my stage 2 and hit mid-high 13's last year (best 13.54@102mph). I just added the VF52 a few days ago and am going to Bandimere in 2 weeks on 3/20 (and so is collegemt with his mickey-tuned VF52 WRX). We are shooting for low 13's and will have some real-world data for you. My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby
camber
You could add an EWG to squeeze out some more power. Seems to be a benefit on the STI turbos.

So you think without adding e85 I won't get over the 300whp mark?? U talking corrected or uncorrected numbers??

I was told the stock wasn't that good... hence the reason I gotta boost controller you are the second person that said the stock bcs is better

I am tuning my VF52 on my '05 LGT in Denver right now. The stock boost control and BPV are great and I wouldn't want anything else. I'll post some info on my tune soon. Keep that part stock! I was recommended by the shop who originally tuned me to use a perrin ebcs, it never worked right for me. I should have just stuck with the stocker unless proven it wouldn't cut the mustard. Who are you planning on doing the install and tune? If you are paying someone to do it, I know of a local who is dirt cheap for labor. I also could recommend a tuner for you... Yea I was gonna have a friend do the install but if I can find someone else to do it for the right price that would be great... mac auto tried to rip me off saying install on fuel pump injectors and turbo was going to be 850... they also quoted me 350 for a full tune.. I haven't really heard great things about them as far as tuning goes so u should let me know... thanks... looks like imma be sellin my aem tru boost controller.. lol... yea... mac was also the one that told me either a boost controller or the perrin ebcs would work better but I guess not... those bastards.... looks like I'm not takin my car there anymore... tommypenguin
Send me a pm and I can give you information. The guy I know lives in Longmont, he charges 100$ for a turbo install, I can’t remember how much for injectors and fuel pump, but I’m sure its very reasonable. He did my clutch/flywheel install for 200$. I would just hold onto the boost controller you probably won’t need it, but since you already have it, might as well wait till you know for sure know you don’t need it to control your boost. Legend
Oh I forgot to mention I wanna boost 18-19psi 19psi is a pressure ratio of 2.57 at Denver altitude. That's equivalent to running 23psi at sea level. That's too much. That said, I'm not sure what the max pressure ratio is on the VF52 (need a compressor map). I was initially planning on running low 16's until the taper, but have slowly increased as I've seen benefit every time I've bumped it up 0.2-0.3psi. I've also prolonged the taper. I'm running 16.90-17.2 (pressure ratio of 2.40) right now. My VF52 is ported, so not sure how much difference that makes. Based on what I've seen from two VF52 tunes at altitude, you'll probably find max power somewhere around 16.0-17.5 or so. If you insist on hitting 19's, the stock bcs can handle that just fine. Ask collegemt about MAC. I wouldn't go there. If I were you I'd take tommypenguins advice on both the install and tune. I think u might have saved me a motor.... funny speedy roopair failed to mention that... all they told me was they wouldn't boost over 20 on my car.. so looks like ill be pushin more like 17psi... that should put me around 20psi sea lvl right?? Maybe ill do 16.5... I really don't wanna blow anything up... what are u running on ur setup?? Any problems?? Motor/tranny holdin up ok?? How do u guys like the vf52?? Feel a dramatic difference compared to the stock vf40?? I know the top end pulls harder but I'm really curious on how much harder?
Legend
My car is running holding up just fine. I'm not done tuning boost but I am getting close. The turbodynamics are so much different than my VF40 and it's taking me longer than I thought it would... plus I want it perfect. Anyhow, here's a plot of MAF both before (stock VF40) and after (VF52). Here's a plot of MAF g/s vs. rpm. You can see I've lost a lot under 3krpms , but gained around 10% up top. I am taking the car to Bandimere next week so we'll see how much of a difference it makes in the real world... I'm thinking I can shave off 0.2-0.4s off my average quarter mile times. http://beeez.com/lgt/MAF.jpg My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby
