93turbo2
Has anyone here swapped out their front LSD for a 99 STi RA lsd? Can it be done on the 2.5i and are any additional parts needed? My buddy gave it to me because he no longer has his GC8 to put it in and has no use for it in his STI. Here are pix of the front lsd. I believe it's from a 99 STI RA. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/93turbo/Front%20LSD%2099STI%20RA/0301091243a.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/93turbo/Front%20LSD%2099STI%20RA/0301091243.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/93turbo/Front%20LSD%2099STI%20RA/0301091242.jpg http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b255/93turbo/Front%20LSD%2099STI%20RA/?action=view¤t=0301091243a.jpg
frostbite3360
Man I don't know, you might want to post this in the transmissions section for a more definitive answer. Here's a thread that might help though http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99463&highlight=lsd Fromt the looks of it..... Maybe? But I don't know, didn't read it all. 93turbo2
What 2.5i came with front LSD? The LSD came out of a GC8 STi RA 5spd. Just trying to figure out if it will fit in our tranny instead of having an open front diff. My buddy was going to put it in his n/a GC8 but he bought an STi before he could finish his research and have it installed.
Guest
It technically will fit the problem is the axle stubs. It requires female axles and our cars have male axles. Bottom line is... it won't fit... unless there is a way to convert it to take male axles.
93turbo2
Thanks for the reply unclemat. It's prob not worth the hassle at the moment, maybe later on down the road or if I come across a way to convert them to take male axles. It would make for a sweet mod to the 2.5i since there's not much you can do performance wise.
Guest
Well, I would start with rear diff before you do front. You have an open diff in the rear....

93turbo2
ditto What do you guys suggest for the rear diff? Who makes a rear viscous or helical for the 2.5i?
Gator GT
What do you guys suggest for the rear diff? Who makes a rear viscous or helical for the 2.5i? Well, my first step would be to get the FSM and look up the specs on the rear diff assembly (ring and pinion, dimensions, axle types, etc) and compare that to your year 2.5GT, and then if enough of that info matches, voila, find a junk'd BL/BP 2.5GT and get that pumpkin. Watch the axle lengths. Older Subaru nonLSD and LSD swaps needed matching halfshafts when upgrading to LSD.
