09 Spec B Transmission issue

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I just purchased a pre owned 09 Spec B with 3k miles. I love this beast, but I've noticed something unusual when I shift up into 4th gear at high RPM's: the shifter (not the clutch) makes a rubbing noise, almost like a clicking. You can feel it in your hand because it's a rapid vibration. Any clues?

Thanks.

Don't know. My '08 doesn't do it. I'd take it back to the dealer. Give them a chance to see what it is. If they blow you off, well, you've still got the rest of the warranty to get it fixed.

Is there a short shifter installed? When I installed my Kartboy shifter it definitely made more noise/vibration in this area -particularly around 3k rpm.

Compare your stick height and throws to a new non-short shift car on the lot to be sure.

At any rate I'd get it checked.

Haven't noticed it in my '08 either....It should have an STI short shifter installed as standard equip. I agree as well with the above to get it checked out.

 No, a short shifter is an option on our cars.

To the OP, get it looked at. My 2008 doesn't do that.

Yes, the STi short shifter was an option on my specB....not standard equipment...

Possibly your synchros? You said pre-owned? Maby the person who owned it before you didn't know how to drive a stick and rocked the s**t out of the transmission...

RedAce is right. Could be synchros. That car is too new to have a shifting issue. Take it in and demand warranty work to get it to what you'd expect from a car with 3k miles. As long as you keep taking it in, they have to document every time you come in.
