tbssubaru Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 hmmm, wonder if he would help me out
canddmeyer Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 If it's a transferable warranty you better get on the ball and get the warranty in your name, even if it costs a few bucks to do so. I wouldn't risk my job helping you out if you haven't done your part.
tbssubaru Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 i would if i could believe me but i don't know who owned the car before me,,, the subaru extended warranty states it voids when traded into a dealer (which is bs in my opinion) ,,, it has a valid warranty the previous owner purchased , subaru should honor it regardless, it's just a scam to get people that buy used cars to buy warranties from the finance dept. so here's what i've done in the past when a) i was lucky enough to buy a used car from a dealer that already had a factory extended warranty on it , and b) i found paperwork in the car with the owners name ,,,, say the previous owner's last name was taylor and mine is smith ,,,,, i take my car to the dealer and check it in as joe taylor smith ,,,, voila - all my repairs are covered under the first owners factory extended warranty ,,, the tech, dealer, and service writer make their money, the car manufacturer honors its warranty like it should without using the bs excuse oh it is void because it was traded in ,,, to me their is no difference between buying the car from a private party (where they allow a warranty transfer) and buying it from a dealer (transfer not permitted) ,,,, its a crap excuse as far as i'm concerned also, it's not customary or anyone's job or responsibility to check/compare ownership of the vehicle or the warranty when the names match
tbssubaru Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 oh yeah, i'm now offering a new ipod nano, or $150 to spend on whatever you like, to whoever helps me out and gets me the name of the previous owner : )
FJ60 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 The original owner might have "cancelled" the warranty and received a partial refund when he/she traded-in or sold the car to the dealer. I sold my F-150 through consignment at a dealer and they told me to contact Ford for a refund because I didn't make a claim. IIRC, Ford gave me ~$100 for the 1 year I had remaining on the warranty.
