Andyjo
So my GF got hit, enough to mess up the front end... had to be towed... she told them that it was AWD, and HAD to be towed on a flatbed (it's an automatic). So we're forwarding this link to the insurance: http://www.subaru.com/owners/carcaretips/index.jsp?pageid=towing&navid=TOWING_A_SUBARU So... we're going to put in a claim for that as well... oh yeah.. 08 Outback 2.5i AT Soo.... maybe that'll push it over the 'being totaled' limit... new car? c-lo
Not sure what you are saying here. what does the towing company have to do with it? did they not tow it on a flat bed? 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
Andyjo
Just asking if towing it like that voids the warranty... just another thing to tack on the insurance claim.
c-lo
so, I guess we have to assume they didn't tow it on a flat bed? cause your post isn't clear. if you have proof that they didn't tow it correctly than the tow company should except responsibility. if they put the rear wheels on dollies than they didn't do anything wrong. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
Andyjo
Oops, i thought i mentioned that they towed it with the front wheels up, the two rear down. Looks like the insurance is going to make us do a second claim for the AWD, separate from the collision damage up front. Thanks for the help! c-lo
wow! they did that even after the "i'll need a flatbed" notification?? unbelievable. 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
blackfang
Yes, they screwed up. The transmission will not be covered by SOA due to their negligence. I would inform them immediately about their error and what they will do for you Once it fails, which should be very shortly. 05LegacyGTLimited
I don't understand why even after she asked for a flat bed, they still towed it away with 2 wheels on the ground... Idiots... Hope that everything works out!
Andyjo
Apparently the tow truck driver thought that 'the car was totaled anyhow'... some crap like that... gonna have her step it up a notch and get things taken care of... Thanks guys!
Jerboa113
sounds like "anyhow towing" just bought you a new car. good luck. "The penalty good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men." - Plato

Andyjo
About 3:30pm last Friday night.. I believe more verbage from that night was "Oh no, it's okay to tow it like that". Stay tune for hopefully some good news...
blackfang
at the tow company and their incredible stupidity. Andyjo
And the plot thickens.... when we last left off Progressive didn't want to total the car -- so they sent it to a body shop over in Lancaster, MA. ....... lots of phone calls, and it's 2.5 months later, they say "Car's ready come pick it up!" So I get a friend at work to drive me down there, I fire the bad boy up... sounds funny.. big i figure... squeeky new belts... get it on the road... what's that... LOUD!!! I think.. Exhaust leak?! sounded like a cracked header almost! So i turn her around and bring it back to the shop. By this time it's been at the body shop for 2 months, and a dealer for ~ 1/2 month for engine/tranny work. (~$10,000 - $8000 body, $2000 engine) After some arguing with 'Bob' (yes that's his name, no protecting the guilty here) for a few minutes, him claiming that he 'didn't know what a subaru sounds like', he agreed to check it out again. Mind you that he said the dealer said it was okay. It turns out it was a busted transmission mount. So we get a call to show up 2 days later, grab another friend to drive me down there, who also happens to know things about automotive mechanics. We get there and meet the girlfriend, turn it on, and we hear ANOTHER noise (more than one actually). pop the hood, and there's some screaching/grinding bad noise... a little more investigation leads to the AC clutch grabbing when it was't supposed to.. looks like the put the squished one back on... grreaattt.... so we call over 'Bob' again, and say 'This doesn't sound right does it?' he goes 'I don't know what a subaru sounds like, I have all sorts of cars on the lot, a ford (points to a ford), a GMC (points to one), a subaru (points to hers), a subaru (points to mine), a...' I interupt, and say that he pointed at mine... so he obviously has no clue what cars he has on his lot.... anyhow.. after that he stated again, that he 'couldn't possibly know what all cars are supposed to sound like', at this point, my friend who had driven me down (who doesn't really take shit from anyone, and LOVES to ruffle stupid people's feathers) simply says 'You know it's wrong'. At this point 'Bob' freaks out, YELLS at myself and my friend saying 'I'M TALKING TO HER, IT'S HER CAR' -- so we shut up, she gets pissed, and pretty much says screw you to the guy. Told him that we're bringing it to the place where the mechanical work was done (the subaru dealer, Northend maybe?). So Bob disappears into his shop. The girlfriend gets on the phone w/ progressive, flips out at the guy, some memorable quotes were: "This is unexceptable, In my line of buisness, if someone can't do their job, we fire them" So, after some heated words about how their prefered shop is horrible, was rude to us, blah blah blah, over the loud speaker at the shop we hear 'Bob, it's Kyle from Progressive on Line 1'.... My friend and I just die laughing, because we know that 'Bob' is getting some verbal abuse from Progessive now. So... we saddle up in the 3 cars now (Hers, the rental, and mine), and head over the the dealer that did the work. ~20 minutes away. We get there, and I told her to wait a minute, wanted to try something, so I walked into the service department, asked the guy at the desk if someone could take a listen to the car, I didn't think it sounded right... so he comes out the car, we fire it up, and pop the hood. Start to point out the belt/grinding clutch noise, and some other noise deeper in the engine, either a bearing, or bad valve noise. His quote was "yeah that really doesn't sound good, what happened to it?" at this point I say "well it's been in the shop for the past 2.5 month, and actually I think it spent some quality time here....." his face dropped, he knew exactly which car it was he goes 'oohhh this is the car where the whole front end was gone'... yup So, we ask them to at least make sure it was okay to drive to VT, they take it in, check it out for ~45mins, they say it's okay.. so we go.... Next day I called up The Car Store in Norwich, VT, I've dealt with their service dept before, good guys, actually know what they're doing. So they agree to take it in end of the week. So on our way up to her parents that weekend we drop off her car, and mine (needed 120k service). Progressive gave us a rental car this time.. so we used that... and by the way this is the weekend that she's moving out to tewksbury... so we load up a rental truck, blah blah, nothing to do w/ the story.. so on comes friday (this past friday). We get the call, cars are ready! they found that the brakes were messed up, transmission to engine dogbone was all loose, some suspension stuff wasn't right, slapped a new AC condenser on it.. and it looks good! So we rolled up there, picked up the cars, and while we were there she just asked the question 'so how much could i get for a tradein?' Talked to some sales people, ended up test driving an 09' legacy sedan SE, red one, it was a nice ride, the dealer must have been hurtin' because they lent us the thing for the night to try out. The next morning we called up St Johnsbury Subaru, who gave a screaming quote (~1.5k less), so we return the trial car, i think the sales dude in norwich was going to cry when we said we weren't going to buy it.. but that's okay. So we roll up to St. Johnsbury, testdrive another legacy, and an 06' baja (it was fun!).. so some bargening, going back & forth about some add we saw that he wouldn't honnor... in the end, we were sitting in the sales managers office, and he said gave us the 'What do i need to do to get your buisness today?' we we met him 1/2 way on the advertized deal, saved ourselves another $500. So... yeah we traded in the outback, and now she's the proud owner of a brand spankin' new 2009 Subaru Legacy 2.5i Special Edition, Dark Silver, and damn that car is HOTT! Such a nice ride! so much nicer than the outback on the highway, and in general i'd say.. it is missing a few options, like the foglights, heated seats, but overall I like it! So in the end, Progressive shelled out ~ $13000, we traded it in for $15000, went from a 7.9% interest rate to a 2.9% interest rate. No more worries about shotty work, and an end to this epic saga... remember the accident happened 12/18/08!!!! So remember to stay away from 'Bob's crappy shop: Lancaster A-1 A B CARSTAR and yes better buisness bureau, online reviews... everything.. shit will hit the fan!! F-WDC Spec B
wow.. i think you should also change your insurance company as they recommend a bad shop.. im liking geico more n more.. as an actually geico claims adjuster actually has an office at their choice body shops... blackfang
I have a different view on Geico, but won't elaborate. Let's say I refuse to have them even if they might be cheaper(they aren't) being we work with them. blackfang
I use Liberty Mutual because nobody else even comes close to the insurance pricing/coverage I want. Plus they use factory parts, and a few other quirks being they are affiliated with Subaru. terrangama
I think a auto insurance has a lot to do with who your insurance agent is. I have state farm and these people are on top of things!
FSRBIKER
Andy that's great news she got out of potential/likely problems down the road, check under the seats for the wires for the heated seats, the 05's at least have them installed just no switches. I agree Liberty Mutual has been great, State Farm was as well until i made my second claim(Hurricane damage and a theft, neither I could control) in two years and they dropped my Home Owners policy so i pulled everything and went to Liberty Mutual. blackfang
I had Progressive for about 5 years but when I got another bike, man they raped me. I called around and progressive, Geico, All State and SF wanted over $3500-4k a year for the minimum amount of full coverage insurance(25k/50k/25k) on my Z/28 Legacy and bike w/ 2 drivers. I tried Liberty Mutual and I pay 100k/300k/100k in full coverage and pay $2100 a year for all my vehicles and 2 drivers. 4 times the coverage for half the price, one of the best customer service oriented companies, and great company that prefers to use oem parts when it comes to claims(I asked our body shop manager how they were). I like that.
