Nokian WR not enough! Need chains. Options?

The Nokian WRs worked awesome until this morning. What I have are the Nokian WRs 215x45x17 (not G2) on Shuk W22 wheels.

It is 26 degrees outside now, roads have a thin crust of ice and very slippery than last night (when I ventured to the grocery store and it worked well last night too). I don't think the freezing rain has started full blast yet.

Long story short, there was a need for me to leave the house to pick someone up who got stuck and unfortunately, my 2006 Legacy GT got stuck right outside the garage drive way. The ABS light remained lit and all 4 wheels were spinning and the car wouldn't budge an inch. With a little showeling I was able to gain traction and get back into the garage. Now I feel I need chains. SOA does not recommend chains and there are threads about that. An option appears to be to get chains for just the front wheels and SCC Shur Grip Z was pointed to by SOA in another thread. However there is nothing available in that model for size 215/45/17. So am I out of options?

I believe studded tires in the situation I ran into may have worked, but chains would have worked better, if one was available.

What are my options?

Thanks!

The roads around here aren't plowed very well and it's hilly but I haven't had any problems with dedicated snow tires.

If you really need chains, you might want to consider SCC Z6 since they exceed SAE Class S clearance requirements. The Shur Grip Z just meets Class S requirement.

If you only use 1 pair of chains, you should only use it for very short distances and at very slow speed or else you might damage your center diff.

Are studded tires an option for you, either local laws or your driving needs?

Maybe that would be a better option than chains?

I honestly don't know. I don't know how much of a hassle it is to drive with studded tires, having to remind oneself ( I guess the noise that they'd make would be enough reminder  ) to keep to lower speeds so as to not eject the studs......

When I was sixteen I used to love to take my mom's Blazer out. It had studs and it would power brake:) Watching sparks shoot out the back was great fun. My parents never could figure out why the studs wore out so fast. I would never put studs on my personal vehicles. I HATE what studded tires do to our local roads.

I feel for ya! I got stuck this past Thursday half way down my road. 30 inches of snow sucks. AWD does no good when the tires don't even touch the pavement.
