Ok, been reading most of the posts here and the outback forum, though cannot find a solution to replace my style of console.

 

I have the 6cd changer with a tapedeck and climate..see attached photo..

 

what are my options to replace the radio with a a bluetooth/ipod style one

Now, upon several hours worth of further reading, found the JDM Panel set...though i have a dial rather than a button on the bottom right on my air con control

 

is there someone else?

You could certainly try and get that. Since you're in the UK that one would probably fit your car better than us in the States. The JDM panel has a dual zone climate control so each side has a dial as well. The issue we ran into here was that the HVAC system is integrated in to the stereo so it took a lot of splicing and dicing of the circuit boards to get it to work with our OEM system. You'll find this information if you search the forums for this.

Hello, you will end up with some grief with that one since it is for dual climate control. You have 2 options, obtain a radio from a newer legacy ( a 2007 and up) which have aux input ( you would have to buy the cable for the aux in) or get one of the above ones with single zone. www.japanparts.com would be the place to go, but if you want some thing dirt cheap go to www.importmonster.com.au , signing up is free. One word of advice, once you go on this site make sure your credit cards are locked away safely. I have already dropped over $1500 buying parts from them in 2 months. Example, I bought a 2007 radio off them for $20 USD at auction.
