skiskank
i can't believe this happened in bounds, super sad. in an area of the resort that ski patrol is very careful about... and an area that i have personally ridden hundreds of times in worse conditions. Scary. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=5084224
Guest LGT-NY
Wow man, that's terrible. It's a good reminder how dangerous the sport is. Luckily we don't get too many slides out east.
skiskank
from what i have heard, she was retrieving her ski that had popped off when the slide buried her. it puts things in perspective for sure. i'm putting the helmet back on, because freak accidents happen, even a small spill can leave you jacked-up. bsdzine
very sad. it's a shame they did avalanche control earlier in the day... I'm wondering if there was a large increase/decrease in temperature to cause a slide... and skiskank: not only wear a helmet, but if you (like some others and myself included) like to hike up past where the lifts go, an avalanche beacon or SOS beacon is a must have. can't put a price on life. brian

GoRilla
Thats crazy. Sounds like Utah is dangerous this year. Makes all us powder hounds realize how lucky we have been in the past. There was a large increase in snow, not temperature. All of the west has very high risk for avalanches right now. Major snow + wind + underlying weak layers are everywhere. This past weekend was insane with multiple accidents.
Hops
Went to Snowbird yesterday... They were being extremely careful and not very many lifts were open. I could hear the avalanche bombs going off quite frequently. Helicopter was inspecting Mt Baldy where the avalanche happened. Buy my cars!
