dga
I have a 2008 LGT with about 6,500 miles on it. The carpet, right by the gas pedal, going up the transmission tunnel, has worn away down to the white plastic backing, from my right foot. About a 4 inch square area where my foot touches it. Is this normal? I have never seen this before on any of my cars, especially after only 6,500 miles. Anyone else have this problem. When I take it in to get the throw out bearing fixed I will let them know.
EquinnoxX
Yea it happened in my car too at about that time. I just recently brought it in for some service and told them about it and they replaced it under warranty. Same spot too!! Do you have the all weather floor mats? Some people have said that the rubber will eat up the carpet when it moves around thus accelerating the wear.

ShadowImg
I'm also having my carpet replaced under warranty because of this same problem. Is anyone else having it? I'm somewhat afraid of the replacement doing the same thing, and we might want to get the info together for Subaru.
blackfang
It is normal wear from your foot regardless of what floor mat is used. However SOA can cover that on a case by case basis. Normal wear for holes to go completely through the carpet in under a year? Sorry, but no. Notice these are 2008s with the problem, not 2005s. This is faulty materials. I had my 2003 2.5RS for 5 years, and it didn't have even a sign of this sort of carpet wear after 5 years. The hole worn in the LGT carpet happened in about 4 months. el5y
yeah...the carpet materials used are crap. even the shifter boots and ebrake boots have been crap in 07+ Eric
Bbc84
hmmm when they replace the carpet, do they do the entire interior floor as 1 piece? If so might be a good chance to get a diff color interior carpeting.
ShadowImg
Yup, the entire carpet is 1 piece. They're going to have my car for a while as they get to disassemble the entire interior of the car to do it. They're giving me a loaner, wonder what I'll get. Bbc84
Would be awesome to change my taupe carpeting to the black carpeting.. I wonder how much that piece of carpeting costs. or maybe i should go look @ my 08' LGT and see if i have any wear.
ShadowImg
^ You'd know it if you had this, the carpet is completely gone, all that's left is the plastic backing material. The pile just peels off entirely.

The floormats have jack to do with it. I have seen this happen with all floormats. I am not going to debate it any further. I am not saying there aren't failures, but what I say doesn't really matter. ShadowImg
I agree, carpet will always wear where foot contact is made over time. However, it will not lose its pile and be completely bare in with 8000 miles on the car unless the material is faulty. You're really really bad at arguing about this sort of thing, and should really stay out of these threads forever. I'm not sure why you're arguing "carpet and floormats wear over time where your foot rubs" which is an absolute fact when the topic of discussion is "why would carpet wear a hole clean through it in less than half a year on a brand new car" which is an entirely different discussion. You're completely missing the point.

You're completely missing the point. I commented on the floormat issue because someone else brought up the fact that wear possibly happens with a certain floormat. The floormat has nothing to do with it and didn't want wrong information to be spread. I have seen wear occur regardless of floormats used. SOA can cover it because i have done a few for customers. Maybe I will take your advice and stay out of all warranty threads. No sense in arguing when I am trying to shed some light on things. Have fun:) Pics 08 KawasakiZZR 600- exhaust and other mods 98 Camaro Z/28 HT- some mods......street/strip car 07 Legacy 2.5i- SPT exhaust...daily driver

wengermi
i use the subaru all weather floor mats in my 07 since day one. the only issue on mine is the mat is ripping from my right foot. i noticed it from 10000 miles and it has about 13000 now. its about a 1 inch cut but wasnt noticeable until i cleaned the mat. also your not suppoased to use the all weather floor mat and the ones that came with the car. ive seen a lot of poeple do that. EquinnoxX
Just had mine replaced under warranty. The official reason stated from the dealer was: 'Inproper carpet fitment from factory accelerated wear' New one looks good. We'll see how long it holds up. ShadowImg
Mine was replaced under warranty and they did a great job as well. Dealer reasoning was just faulty carpeting. Did you notice that your new carpet looks a little different than the old stuff? I'm wondering if it's what's in the 09s and isn't quite the same. I noticed the color difference primarily, the new stuff is pretty pure black, where the oldstuff was more of a charcoal gray. I like this better, honestly. galpdawg
i recently noticed i have a similar problem in my 06 lgt not by the gas pedal but half way to my seat, i can see the white under the carpet, i have the extended gold warrenty. wil this be covered under warrenty, it really gets me mad that this is happenning. doesnt look to nice or the car, since i keep interior clean. thanks

desertfoxaz
Mine is having the same problem. I have a service appointment on Saturday and was thinking of bringing this up, but I don't want to be without a car for a while (I guess I'd get a loaner though). However, if they have to take apart the interior to replace the carpet, what are the odds that I'll end up with rattles that didn't exist before?
