2009 Legacy 2.5i Special. SPT Intake

I bought an SPT intake for my legacy, however it looks like its not going to fit without special modding to either mounting brackets, intake manifolds, MAS, or the whole lot of them. The picture of the intake (and heat shield) are below. Does anyone know of an SPT part (or other) that would fit my legacy? Willing to buy K&N or AEM parts but would rather go with SPT. Its an 09 legacy 2.5i Special. No turbo. Let me know. Thanks.

(Took this picture from a previous post but its the same part)

Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you!

Okay, thanks. Just reply back if you find it. I figure I could probably find some piping that might do the trick, but it still wouldnt solve the problem with the air flow sensor. If there is a part specifically for it then Ill obviously just go with that. Ill be checking back. Thanks again.

any idea why the intake wont work on the 2.5i? other than it doesnt fit, what is the connection with the intake and the turbo? I spoke with a subaru parts specialist about a spt intake on ebay and he said it would fit although I asked the dealer and he said it wont.

The gt has an inlet that comes from the turbo and under the intake manifold, the gt spt intake (pictured) will absolutely not fit. To be honest, an intake will do nothing for performance on a 2.5i, the factory design flows well. The only intake for the 2.5i I know of is the cosmo ebay brand. This may adjust your maf flows causing a CEL.

2.5l N/A cars have issues with intakes. there is a resonance in the inlet tube. Apparently it effects MAF readings. On turbo cars it is over come by the turbo (suspected) and suction it causes.

But in testing on N/A cars intakes cause wild MAF fluctuations that the ECU can not compensate for. Specifically when dropping the throttle. It causes the motor to almost stall, rather than get up and go. Very dangerous situation. Some have tried to tune around it, but have only been able to make band aids that are not recommended.

Subaru does not make an intake for the 2.5l N/A cars. Return that intake and give up on it. Keep the intake stock.

Wow, glad I read the rest of the thread.

I almost sent the OP a PM to try and buy the intake off of him.

Thanks for the heads up everyone. I am new to the fourm and was just trying to see what mods (if any) were avaliable for the 2.5i

m sprank: your car is dope. lol. read your whole post about your rebuild last night. Great job. interesting thing is that I had a feeling the stock intake on the Legacys were already pretty good. Its the same intake as my buddys 08 wrx.

saves me the cash on a new intake as I've already thrown a k&n filter in the stock set up.

Because you have a 2.5i your power mods are limited. You could buy a set of headers for a turbo car and hack them up to fit. You could buy a CBE for a turbo car and hack it up to fit. There are possibilities of tuning via opensource. But your options are limited. There are however many suspension mods you can do. everything that fits a LGT (except front sway bar) will fit your car. You can always customize with visual interior and exterior mods too.

Thanks. Not sure which car you are referring to. But thanks. I currently have three LGT's. One 05 wagon 5MT (wrecked, its a project). One 08 5EAT (currently rebuilding for wife, it was stage3 then stock, now going stage2 again. But on the road). One 08 SpecB, currently in mid build (again) and getting more upgrades.

though i have buddies who are big into modding, I'm new to this game.. so forgive if this sounds dumb, but would it be any different to put the COSMOS intake in my AUTOMATIC 2.5i 2009 legacy?

It's sad cuz I loved the car til I got used to the 170hp ride... my friend has a modded WRX and 0-60's in 4 sec, hop back in my NA hahaha.. u get the rest...

I'm not hopin to bump mine up a whole lot.. rather just get a new car, but i'd like a little more push that don't cost too much

Thanks a lot for the info. Some plans I have for my car include eibach pro kit, cusco engine strut, front and rear sways (not sure which ones, sugestions welcome), as well as tint, and exhaust (suggestions also welcome). I heard I should stay above 19 mm for sways and I'm thinkin about just goin to my local exhaust shop for that. I know flowmaster has a Series 44 Delta Flow muffler for 4 and 6 cyllinder cars that I might pick up. As I said wheels and tires are already done. This is my DD car so I want to keep it clean and do a few things to it but dont want to devalue the car.

BTW any input on prokit is welcome. I've heard its one of the best DD kits. Thanks again.

The Eibach Pro Kit is discontinued. It is still made by Eibach, but under a different name. it is now sold as the Epic kit. I have them in stock and use them on my wifes LGT.

The Cusco strut tower bar is just bling. If you want one, cool. Just letting you know it adds no performance gain.

Because tyou have a 2.5i there are limited options for you on sways. Any LGT rear sway bar will fit. But only a Rallitech front sway bar is available. A LGT front bar will not fit your 2.5i.

Magnaflow is the most popular muffler on teh forum for just a muffler. Any decent muffler shop can help you with a custom CBE though. Probably a better bet than trying to hack up an LGT CBE.

A set of LGT cans (Prodrive, etc) made to be axleback on an LGT will also fit your 2.5i.

I found this on someone's page too... they explained the benefits of just "smooth-tubing"

Would this be up in the "NO" category with the intakes or would this be a good choice? Or would this make no gains at all?

Here's the quote and picture:

i've tested a lot of intake, custom and manufactured, and i'd say my favorite is just a simple smooth-tubing (see pic, it's the red tube replacing the stock "accordion tubing") with a "snorkus" delete and a K&N drop in filter in the stock box. Keep the "torque box," as some call it, on. I've felt that it smooths the feel of the throttle. Sounds good, performs great, feels good, and will overall be a worthwhile modification.
