Copyright infringement...

Recommended Posts

dude carmen elecrta is old enough to be your mom now.

oh.. grp.. doh! didnt see that before.

yea the whole intellectual property thing is quite a mess. I cant say I've ever created anything wroth stealing  I probably wouldn't care unless someone was saying they made it ,or was making money on it.

That won't stop me =) I actually saw this lady at a certain place one day, when I saw her, she was ridiculously good looking. I was like "woah, gotta put on the game face!" I started talking to her another time when I ran into her... turns out she's married with two kids! I said holy sh!t! AND IM 18!!! Just imagine.

And as for the copyright infringement stuff, I guess it's different when it's a persons career. But it's the same with me, if someone took any of my pictures, I wouldn't care unless they were benefiting from it. It's way too complicated for what you can and can't do. It's annoying.

I work in Staples as an Easy Tech associate. Once in a while, I'll stroll down to the copy center to see if they need help or not... and not once have I, or the other associates bugged someone about "copyright infringement." Im 18, and I could careless what people make copies of. Look for the younger kids. Why? Because they don't care =)

As a journalist, I am troubled by your statement. By the way, I am young myself, college age to be exact.

Lol, I apologize if it went the wrong way, but I sell computers and electronics. I don't really work in copy center, but when I do, I don't ask people about the whole copyright things. Why? When you find either porno pictures or a picture of a customer's son who died in Iraq sitting inside of a printer, its uncomfortable to ask them. Plus, I only "help" when I can with very little things. I wouldn't be aware of the technicalities involving copyright infringements. Sorry brotha.

what does selling computers and electronics have to do with ignoring whats wrong? You beteer figure it out real quick or you can lose your job because you chose to ignore copyright laws.

to think about it...

I used to know a staples manager(who started in the copy center) and they knew their copyright laws... even minimum waged employees from ritz knew copyright... so its either you are choosing to ignore it or choosing not to learn about it ...either way you will remember this thread when someone takes credit and possibly make money for something that you did or worked for.

Kids don't get taught responsibility these days, however if someone has a newspaper clipping or a single page in a book that they want copied once or twice, does that really constitute copyright infringement?

If I understand correctly, a certain number of copies need to be made or greater than a certain percentage of a piece of work needs to be copied to constitute infringement.

copying a photo usually uses 100% of someone elses work, are you thinking about plagiarism?

what the original site in question may have meant would have been trademark infringement...since the suabru logos are all over the photos, but they didnt cite it that way.

I think Zazzle is a bit off in this email. What they probably meant to say is that it's a trademark violation, not copyright infringement. Unless some of those photos are off of subaru.com, then it might be copyright infringement assuming you couldn't present a a valid fair use defense. However, fair use is decided in the court, not by Zazzle, so they'd punt it off until a legal decision said otherwise.

yea man.. if you were her son, you'd be the age she was when she had you.

She was in playboy, you can see the goods if you look on google n stuff I imagine. I dunno if the goods still look like that tho. Didnt she marry dennis rodman or something? I dont know that i'd want that guys hand me downs.

I think I agree with LLAE in that they probably mean trademark infringement. They'd be clearly producing a subar logo as par your front end pic, and the "Subaru Outback" statement.

Still tho, this is totally different from having someone plaigerize your work or copy your photography work.

First off, don't call me a "kid." I'm not 2 years old. I copy pages from books all the time, is that supposed to institute copyright infringement? And of course if I worked copy center on a regular basis, and a customer came in wanting to make a thousand copies of a picture, I sure would question it. But for something little, I don't know. It would depend. Retail sucks.

You are a journalist my friend, I am a business major. =)

Alright, would you ever want any of your analytical or technical documents that you write being used by someone else without your permission? The way I look at it, there are two ways to commit carer suicide. The two ways are plagiarism and libel. Try getting a job in the communications and journalism field, or many fields for that matter after being labeled for plagiarism or libel. Even as a business major you should know this. I was a public management and economics student in school. Even we learned the importance of using only our own work in the field.

 I'm glad she isn't my mother...that would be pretty twisted. I haven't checked her out lately, she's probably wrinkly with herpes and some new form of STD that she created. She's hot for sure, but questionable whether to touch or not. The whole copyright/trademark infringement rules are very confusing. It depends on the situation.

Never thought of it that way. I wouldn't want anyone taking credit for my work. Especially if they were benefiting from it. Very true my friend. Very true.

Good! For the most part it's not a huge deal. It's once someone starts taking credit for work that isn't their own that it really becomes a pain. If I saw an article for print, web, a broadcast reader, a press release, anything of my own being used by someone else, and them receiving credit for it, I would be pretty annoyed. I always remember the words of my 4th grade teacher, "give credit where credit is due." If you can always do that, you wont need to worry about being fired, or worse being charged for something.

On a side note, I worked in a CVS photo department for a VERY short time back in high school. We never once learned anything about copyright infringement while I was there. Pretty sad actually.

I don't "choose" to ignore what's wrong. Based on what department you work at Staples, you are told to take tests pertaining to that specific field. Such as, I would not take copy center tests because I am the business machines associate and copy center associates would not take business machines tests. It is not in my field of work. I help them out if I can, so I am not EXACTLY sure if they do follow the copyright procedures. I help shipping boxes and if people ask me how to make a copy on the copier, I just help them. No questions asked. It's just that, some of the other people that work in there are the ones who dropped out of college and don't care about anything. I will ask the copy center manager today if in fact do they follow the copyright/trademark infringement laws. The bottom line is, I'm not "choosing" to do anything, if copy center is swarmed with people (which is usually is) and a customer asked me how to make a copy on a copier, I would help them. And I couldn't even take the copy center tests if I WANTED to. I am defined by corporate as an Easy Tech associate, and they give us tests based on that. I am truly sorry if something went the wrong way in my initial post. I will definitely find out today how they run things in there.

Yeah, I look at it as an essay standpoint. If I had written an amazing essay and someone stole it from me, I would be very pissed. But now for you, since your career is journalism, its completely understandable. It matters to you guys a hell of a lot more than some people. But yeah, about the CVS and copyright thing... It's annoying.
