Red Light Runner totalled my Outback

So, I was pulling out from the offramp of I-10 at 6th Ave here in Tucson Friday morning on my way to work and partway into the intersection I see a flash of a silver truck coming through from my left. I barely got on the brakes, but it was already too late & the truck never slowed down at all. She plowed right through me, spun my car 90 degrees and stopped well past the intersection. The impact discharged both of our air bags and completely disabled my car. Enough of the story though - here's the pics after the fact - I had them tow the car back to my house.

I think that beam under the air intake is supposed to be straight right?

This tie rod has seen better days. The tire is also touching the shock higher up & it's bent in half.

Yea, I'm fine. The air bag burned some hair off my right hand and smacked my left wrist a little...my knee is a little sore - I think it hit the console or something. But, I basically walked away with no significant injuries. The woman driving the truck was also ok - both of us were pretty shaken up, but that was about it.

Honestly - I'm not sure. I'm looking at Mazda Speed3, VW GTI & 09 WRX...should probably be out test driving so I know what I want if they total it.

Sorry to see this. Glad you are OK. Good thing (as much as it can be said in this case) that it was front end, not the middle of the car.

Good luck with new car !

Eh? Is this a local promotion for you or something? STi's normally don't offer any kind of discount or incentive...

From the looks of that top radiator hose there is some serious frame damage, your engine looks to be now sitting twisted in the car. If they do total it make sure to swap back your stock parts that way you can sell off your wheels, intake, possibly grill, etc as they usually don't care since it's going to the junkyard anyway.

Good luck, glad your OK and if that's a local STI deal who cares take a plane and drive it home!

the rims are actually just fine. Drivers side has some scuffs from her tires, but thats about it...probably clean right off. Problem is... I don't have stock parts to replace them with except the air intake, Coilovers (luckily had stock on front), and a cheap spare uppipe.

Front swaybar and endlinks are probably toast, grill is definitely smashed... rear sway, links, intercooler, wheels, downpipe, exhaust-have nothing to substitute. Already took out the Stealthbox...XM and the amp will follow tomorrow.

Adjuster is coming Mon - will know more then, but whatever happens, lm not keeping this car.

That's not gonna buff out. Glad you're OK though. If you don't have all of the stock parts, consider stripping the aftermarket stuff anyway. Maybe they won't notice? :)

I vote for a new Outback too. But, if they do total it, and if you're sure you're not going to get a second Outback or a Legacy, PM me with a price for that Stealthbox...

And, regardless, I've got a stock TMIC that I would be happy to part with.

Nope, incentive to dealer is based on their sales level, and:

Cannot be combined with any other incentive. Financing for well-qualified applicants only. Length of contract is limited. Subject to credit approval, vehicle insurance approval and vehicle availability. No down payment required. See participating dealers for details. Must take delivery from dealer stock by December 1, 2008.

What actually happens when they total a car? Do you get to keep it?

I've never had to deal with that.

they either total it, take it and pay off loan...or total it, pay off loan and you have option of buying back w/ a salvage title.. I cant remember where they come up with the price when you choose to buy it back...
