SKowaleski Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 So during my routine oil change at the dealer they said the tech noticed I need some work done. I have a 99 Legacy 2.5 GT with 99K miles Is this a case of the dealer trying to make some extra coin? Any experts help me out? -I had a timing belt put on at 60K, they are recommending a new one already for $400? Does this sound right? -Also they said my valve cover gaskets are cracked and leaking and state the replacements are $495. Seems expensive to other estimates. Interestingly the manager said I can wait 2-3 months to have this work done..... Are these guys trying to take me for a ride?
Opie Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 I thought the '99 models timing belt interval was every 105k, maybe they recomended it because your getting close to 105k and didn't know it had been replaced at 60k. $400 is a pretty good price. As far as the Valve Cover Gaskets the price seems a little high, but if he said you've got a couple months I would guess that they are just starting to seep, they will get worse as time goes by but aren't needed immeadiately. Sounds like they were being very upfront with you.
