'05 GT wagon...

Hey,

I'm looking at trading in my current car ('04 Nissan Sentra Spec V) towards something better. I need something more versatile, with more room, but I still want something sporty and fast also. I test drove a '05 Legacy GT wagon today with 34k on it. The dealership wanted almost $19k for it, but because they want to make a sale and because the car has been on the lot for a couple of months they are willing to let it go for $17,495. I've always been a die hard Nissan guy, so I don't have much experience with the Suby's. But I've always had a soft spot for the Boxer engine. The car looks to be in great shape, drove nice, very fast too. So I guess my questions are, is this a good price for this vehicle? Also are there any problem spots to watch out for with this platform?

I've got an 05 with 100k on it. car has been great for me. just replaced the clutch. I'd say have the car checked by an independant mechanic. if it looks good, buy it! you won't regret it.
258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos

auto or manual

that's the key question - manuals are worth more

plus is it limited or non-limted?

non limited and auto? way, way too high price

I'd say $14k if that would be ok price, but no more than that

check edmunds.com for current market values, plus substract something given the market climate - you are in charge, not dealer

I just checked it on edmunds, I got $18,630.

Edit-Checked it for my area w. the market conditions and I got $16,643. So looks like it's time to haggle.

Anything else I should know?

So I guess I am sucker believing (in) them as well!

You must have choosen "excellent" condtion plus - are you in WA/OR? For some reason people overpay for Subarus there significantly more than anywhere else

For reference I bought 05 LGT Limited *manual* wagon (white/black - rarest combo) in excellent condition with 21k miles last May for $19k. In New Mexico. For my brand new 05 LGT non-Limited (also manual) wagon I paid $22k even in May 2006 (leftover).

I saw both 05 LGT MT and AT non-limited wagons with ~40k miles go in the ~14k-15k range last fall here in Northeast.

YMMV. I'd still offer them $14k and see what they say. You can always walk out and come later. They had the car for months so it should tell you something.

I don't know about values; I'll leave that to you, but it's worth what you can buy it for and/or what the dealer is willing to sell it for, other comments in this thread notwithstanding. But I really like my 2005 LGT Wagon with the auto trans. 70,000 miles and it still drives like a new car.

Yeah, I've been screwing around with the edmunds this for the past half hour. When I price it with options it's around 18k, but then I check the local report on what others are paying and it's in the 16k range. Needless to say, I'm a bit confused with it.

I do live in the Northeast, seacoast area.

So, unclemat you think 14k wouldn't be unreasonable, I just don't want to get laughed at if I threw them that offer, lol?

^Lol, true. I'm younger (22) so I plan on having my dad come with me, he got 3k off my Spec V when I bought it. He's in the military, so he's good at intimidating people haha.

But anyways what would be a reasonable offer to throw them that has a good chance of getting accepted?

Sorry for all the questions, I just really want this car, but I don't want to get screwed over.

$14k and you don't get screwed over. Tell them you don't have a trade until you get the price you want on the Subaru, then negotiate the trade.

You can get a great deal on the new car and screwed on the trade and you're still screwed.

Yeah well their already low balling me on my trade, but they haven't seen it yet. I talked with them for a half hour or so today. I was able to get them to a reasonable price on the trade-in after a lot of back in forth, but it's still dependent on when they see it they say.

The salesman kind of treated me like a dumb kid too, but when I go in I'll have my old man with me.

Most of them treat everyone like idiots. When you go back tell them you aren't trading in the Nissan, then change your mind if you get a good price on the Subaru

I kind of have to man. I can't afford payments on two vehicles, even temporarily. They offered around what my Nissan is worth on trade-in. And honestly the Spec V's are not very popular vehicles...so I don't even know if they'll be able to sell it(not that I care).

i agree with the concensus here. i just bought my 05 MT Limited in June for $18.5k

that thing should be in the $14.5k - $15k range. there were FAR more autos available when i was looking.

EDIT: where are you located? keep looking if they dont want to deal. and for that price, see if you can find a Limited, the leather and sunroof is REALLY nice!!

^I'm in the NH seacoast area. I'm going to see what I can get them to do, and if I don't get what I want, I will go else where.

Sorry I'm not very knowledgeable with this platform, like I said I've always been a Nissan guy. Hopefully I'll be able to get them to take a good amount of money off and I can use that it's been on the lot for a few months as leverage too.

$7.5 to 8k range, but it's dependent on when they see it. My dad did back into my Spec, and it will not be going into the body shop till next month. That's the reason why I didn't have it with me to show the dealer, and thats why they say they can't give me more for it.

My father said he'll pay the difference of what I lost because it was his fault for the accident.

I searched around, and I have seen Spec V's comaparable to mine selling for around 12k at dealerships. I personally think they sould give me 10k for it, but I doubt that will happen because the Specs don't have very good re-sale value.
