tytek Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 A very nice video about the Nissan GT-R; its history, development, and the reveal of the newest model... http://videos.streetfire.net/video/NGC-Insider-Supercar-The_193096.htm
05GT Guru Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Im at work and cant use streetfire, but do they have the part where nissan screws you when the tranny blows after you just spent 120k on a car that will be worth 70k in 1 year?
Habitual Line Stepper Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Im at work and cant use streetfire, but do they have the part where nissan screws you when the tranny blows after you just spent 120k on a car that will be worth 70k in 1 year? Its gonna be in the deleted scenes next to te DVD commentary. "I for one do not doubt you, dude. Your car is fast and an internet legend." -Gire
dragonman586 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 If you watch the video you see the screwy way the tranny sits. The tranny is at the rear axle. A drive shaft sends power from the engine all the way back to the tranny on the rear axle. From there the tranny has another drive shaft shooting forward to power the front wheels! I did not know that.
Knight705 Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 they put the tranny in the back to offset the weight of the engine. although i'm sure they didn't think it through completely with the power the engine can output.... having to travel so much on two driveshafts.
Whitestar Pilot Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Its amazing how bad this is hurting their image. They better cover those transmissions under warranty, or this car is going to have a short lifespan. I wonder what the 0-60 is on the GT-R without dissabling the traction control, that "VDC" thing? They need to admit that this car is only capable of THAT time or start a recall on those transmissions.
TPLGT Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 The GT-R is the coolest, faastest...bestest car evaaaahhhhh!!! Rehab is for quitters.
Guest Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 If they just put 6MT box in it, I'd consider it. I am not touching any autoboxes with 10 meter long pole.
05GT Guru Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 They should have started with a tranny that is proven to hold 600hp and 600trq atleast. But Nissan wanted to have this tranny for 20k a pop, nice. There is obvious companys that build AWD trannys up to handle excess of 1k horsepower, im sure they would have built one for way less than 20k.
Barrok Posted October 25, 2008 Posted October 25, 2008 Wow, havent heard this much tranny talk since visiting Vegas.

05GT Guru Posted October 26, 2008 Posted October 26, 2008 No its .4 slower not using launch control but the VDC still has to be off.
