Soda Popinski Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDksvDHpiCY&feature=related]YouTube - TST Autumn Endurance Run 09[/ame] Just one of a handful of clips from the 2008 Autmun Endurance Run hosted by TST. Shot is from inside a 2008 Legacy GT, stage 2. Yes those are the STi performance gauges on the dash. 5EAT. The 'beep-beep'ing you hear during downshifts is the 5EAT paddle shifters during the downshift. For the actual Hi-res version, you'll have to view this video from youtube.com itself and click the "view the hi-res video" option under the video. Cam was mounted on a head rest-camera mount off the passenger side.
TSiWRX Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Too cool. I've gotta press the wifey into an '09 LGT. Paddle shift. <-- I love Winky, my "periwinkle" (ABP) LGT! - Allen / Usual Suspect "DumboRAT" / One of the Three Stooges '16 Outback, '16 WRX, 7th Subaru Family
DarkLegacy Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 The walkie idea is awesome.... Definitely a nice road to cruise on....
urs1ne Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Paddle shift?! I assume we are talking about a slushbox that allows you to shift up or down by pushing the shifter forward or back and not actual paddles on the steering wheel right? ^ n00bs below this line

Well, it's still a slushbox, with paddles on the wheel.

urs1ne Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Holy crap thats awesome! You learn something new everyday, so its the same tranny just with the paddles, its not a twin clutch setup or anything like that is it? ^ n00bs below this line

Spoonwacker Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Awesome video! And handheld radios FTW (even if you just use them to harass other drivers by playing Tom Jones ) sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.Team Pony Express POSTED FROM MY COMPUTER USING A WEB BROWSER
Soda Popinski Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 My car has the 5EAT with the wheel paddles... not buttons. I can shift it with paddles whilst in "D"rive mode. Or, leave it in Manual and use the shifter foward/back for +/- You can't put it in or out of "N" though which blows, IMO. But I had zero problems keeping pace with STi's and Evo's, even a new 08 STi.

tdoggydog Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 OK - paddleshift question for you guys (please, no flaming). I go to the mountains frequently and love to drive relatively spirited up and down on the windy roads. My question is, how do I paddle shift? I know, lame question. I do it but it seems like going from 5th to 4th or 4th to 3rd don't really do a ton, and I'm afraid if I double down shift then I might over-rev the engine. Is this a valid concern? Help!

It won't downshift if the rpm is too high.
tdoggydog Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 No concern. It won't downshift if the rpm is too high. REALLY??? Did I miss that in the manual???
Soda Popinski Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 For the 5EAT the power gears are 2 and 3... for most of my rally run I was in 2nd and 3rd... 2nd gear for me runs up to 60, 3rd up to 90. I tried to keep my rpms between 4000 and 6000 for that run. Paddle shifting keeps both hands on the wheel which is > than 1 hand and 1 on the shifter. IMO.

Throttlejockey Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 REALLY??? Did I miss that in the manual??? Not sure if it's in the manual, but i tried it multiple times when I had the same car. It just won't downshift if the revs are too high. The other thing with the 08's is the car will shift up, even if it's in manual mode, when the rpm's reach redline.
SBT Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 What in-car camera mount (and camera) were you using. On the high-res version it was amazingly stable and the focus was very good. And if you are doing a fun run, radios are a must. - Pro amore Dei et patriam et populum -
