987687 Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 So there is a little puddle of gas under my car. I assume that is not a good thing. I should take it somewhere to get fixed... Well, its not so little, its getting bigger as I type...
c-lo Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 are you asking if it's a bad thing that your car is leaking gas and should you take your car that's leaking gas somewhere to get fixed?? 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
Pig Pen Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 if you car is leaking gas currently as i type this.. then get off your computer and get dirty.. jack it up and try and find where the leak is coming from.. it could be something easy enough for you to fix.. or bad enough to confirm that 1) you cant fix it and 2) you shouldnt drive it in its current condition... otherwise if you are just worried about driving to your mechanic while currently leaking fuel.. grab yourself a gas can and give it your best shot... at least if you run out half way there the tow fee will be cheaper..
dvdt Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Yes it's not a good thing. Either fix it or get it towed somewhere to get it fixed. Ideally you should have the tank drained first. True story: A friend had his car (come to think of it, it was an older Legacy) towed when he went off the road in bad weather. It turned out the the gas tank was ruptured and had a leak. The car caught on fire while being towed. But I have to add a disclaimer in here, it was a very odd set of circumstances. The tow truck's tire came off and the sparks from this caused the fire.
ehsnils Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 Chewing Gum is a good sealant for gasoline leaks. (No Joke)
987687 Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 Of course its not a good thing... I a have an appointment to get it fixed tomorrow.
987687 Posted October 14, 2008 Author Posted October 14, 2008 The dealer where I bought it from is going to fix it for free. They don't warranty that part, but since I have only had it for a couple of weeks, they are just going to do it for me. Norms used cars FTW!
Pig Pen Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 wow.. a reputable used car dealership... thats how you keep customers coming back.. good looks glad to see it worked out for you
vr4Legacy Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 It's great the dealer is doing it without argument, but I believe it's the law that you have 30 days if any unstated problems occur (not brought on by yourself) to take the vehicle back for repairs or refund. But as mentioned reputable dealers FTW
Aczwild Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 I'm going to guess it was probably the fuel filler neck, it is a common part to rust through on the older legacy's. It cost me about $120 to have mine replaced JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! RIP Coxx & Thanks

Aczwild Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 haha I hear you, mine rusted through when I was in college, right before I flew out to Jackson Hole, WY for a week of skiing. It sat in the parking lot the whole time leaking JDM'd All to hell Thanks Jimmy @ Hkc-Speed.com! RIP Coxx & Thanks
987687 Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 So I went to the dealer on my way back to college from home. They said it would be about an hour and a half, since it was a nice day I went for a run. I got back about an hour and 10 minutes later, and it was all done. I can't say enough for Norms.
