Stang70Fastback Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 So basically some idiot completely scraped the whole back half of his Volvo on the right corner of my rear bumper, which now has massive scuffs/missimg paint. Question: I don't want to go through insurance. What's the best way to do this? Would it be cheaper to have it repainted? Should I just find a used bumper and pay someone to install it? Is it something I could replace myself fairly easily? He's going to pay (I hope) but I don't want it to be expensive 'cause I don't want him to say he'd rather go the insurance route. The only work I've ever done on my car is replaced the front left quarter panel... and even that was hard for me. What should I do?!
99SUS SFD Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Why not go through insurance? You'll get the work done free of charge and be good as new.
slomoe2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 If you live in a tort state the other guy's insurance is going to pay. If you want guess's on what your car needs then post a pic.
Stang70Fastback Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Well... first off - I don't want my insurance going up? Second... I don't have collision. Third... the fellow student who hit me ALSO doesn't want to go through insurance. May as well keep it off the record if possible. It's not as bad as I thought. I think I'm just going to smear touch-up paint all over it and just keep the $250 he's giving me. The car isn't really worth that kind of fixing up.
absolutsnwbrdr Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Find a huge junkyard. Find an Outback in that junkyard. Give em $100 for the bumper and pocket $150.
Stang70Fastback Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 It's really not worth spending anything on this car. I've just decided to use some touch-up paint and put the $250 towards a long-overdue graphics card upgrade One day I'll have a car that's actually worth fixing if someone smashes it... *sigh*
KnifeyMcShanker Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 That's a bad attitude to have towards your car...
99SUS SFD Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Well... first off - I don't want my insurance going up? Second... I don't have collision. That shouldn't matter if he's at fault. It'll be his insurance covering it. But I don't blame you for wanting to screw someone else's insurance over for a small collision like that.
