Up Pipe pre-install questions

I've found the couple-three up-pipe installs here - guy on another forum says:

5 hour minimum for the uppipe and you have to unbolt the engine and raise it 1-1 1/2 inches to get the stocker off.

I don't buy it. Input?

I'll have the DP off anyway, installing that too.

You don't have to raise the engine. Take the top mount off, it'll be easier to get to the UP bolts.... and it shouldn't take you 5 hours, it's a little tricky to finagle the stocker out, but after that it's smooth sailin

Thanks guys...I'll post pics of the install - there aren't very many up pipe installs around the forums.

I can't remember for sure but I think I took out my passenger side exhaust manifold in order to finagle the UP out and then back in with the new one. I know yours is a flex and you shouldn't have too many issues with leaks but make sure the manifold to UP connection is the first one you tighten down completely (you typically do each connection a little at a time). I didn't do that and had a bad leak because that stupid connection is a 2 bolt set-up for some stupid reason. Also, some will argue against this, but I used a healthy dose of high temp gasket maker when I took it all out and did my turbo swap. Some say this is not necessary but it worked great for me. My $.02.

i have hks catless up and x02 catless dp. I as well took off the passenger side manifold. When it came time to jack up the motor. Just unbolt the one big bolt on the passenger side motormount. I grabed my brother and had had him take it out while i lifted up the motor just a tiny bit. So grab a friend to make it easier. Once the stock up is out you can put the aftermarkter up in from the top like a peice of cake with the tmic out. Also for my dp to fit i had to cut 2 of the studs on the HKS up the back ones. So i say before you bolt the up all into place...put it in place and tighten two bolts then just see if your dp will clear the up studs. Alot easier to cut them out of the car then when there right next to your open turbo....Use OEM gaskets and have some PB blaster around. Shake it well and let it sit for a few mins before you go for the bolts. Then just torque your bolts to spec. Hope this helps...

Well - I chickened-out on the UP Pipe, but got the Downpipe installed. When my Laptop charges, I'll try the stage two flash. So far, on stage1 (mickeyd's) w/ the catless DP I get...maybe more torque feeling? I dunno. Boost is 1-2psi higher it seems. I'll post up a DIY for the downpipe later today.

I didn't think the spec B's had catted uppipes. If it's not catted, why swap it?

You're mistaken. You're confusing spec.B's having the key to Every-lasting Life with 'No Cat in the Up Pipe' - happens all the time. Don't sweat it.

:D

Just installed my up yesterday for the 2nd and a half time. Just make sure you tighten the up to manifold connection first.. I need to check torque on everything again later tonight, but I think I may have killed the leak. I did have to unbolt the motor mount and jack the engine up tho to get the stock uppipe out. I also went all out this time and loosened up the turbo brackets (what a...) to ensure everything was mating up well with eachother. Pretty much just followed the Vishnu install instructions this time around and used all OEM gaskets. But yeah, you're looking at approx. 5 hours depending on what problems you run into.
