tdoggydog Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 What does everyone think of this? I was just at Irvine Subaru and they have a pamphlet on costs to have various Bluetooth units installed. Basically, you make an appointment, drop your car off overnight, and the install is done by the next morning. - Parrot CK3000 $400 - Parrot CD3100 $450 - Parrot CK3200 $550 - CiG $700 Keep in mind that this is more geared for us without audio/mechanical skills ( ). Thoughts?
tdoggydog Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 I told you...you can do it yourself! Trust me, I can't.
sdvictor Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Then trust me...call around some pro stereo shops and I think you might get a better price..
seanlsb Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 I had the Ego, which I prefer to the Parrots, installed on my car for 350. Those prices are just entirely too high. ...gouge what?
a.lim Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 i had a ck3000. bought it for $110 and installed it at a local stereo shop for $100. so.. you can save a LOT of money lol

Is the shop you used local? If so, could you get me the info and would you recommend them? I've gone to a few Al & Ed's in my area but they just seem clueless, and I don't want them touching my car.
jsalicru Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Shoot, I'll do it for you for WAY less than those prices quoted. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. All we know is, he's called the Jose."
FishingFiend Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 I hope the Irvine prices included the Parrot unit itself, cause they are charging what looks like 4+ hours of labor. I'm with SDVictor, you can do it yourself or convince one our local members to help. A respectable stereo shop should also be able to knock this out the same day.
tdoggydog Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Shoot, I'll do it for you for WAY less than those prices quoted. Yeah, but you're in Murrieta.

Yes, it's a package price (including the unit itself).
NutBucket Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Yeah, but you're in Murrieta. So you won't drive a couple hours to save a couple hundred bucks?
tdoggydog Posted September 23, 2008 Author Posted September 23, 2008 So you won't drive a couple hours to save a couple hundred bucks? Why, when I could make that money working in the same amount of time?
subarussian Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I paid $75 at Best Buy to have them install my CK3000. Cost me $150 for the unit, $40 for a no-wire-hacking harness, and $75 for install.
NutBucket Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Why, when I could make that money working in the same amount of time? I didn't realize all 3.0 drivers made $100 an hour. I bow before you.
NutBucket Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 ok, I guess that rumor goes out the window.

sdvictor Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Dude...looking around at bluetooth kits, i'm gonna wait a couple of months and upgrade. The MKi series was just released http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits/parrot-mki9100 http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits/parrot-mki9000 http://www.parrot.com/uk/products/hands-free-car-kits/parrot-mki9200
subarussian Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 nope, did not scratch the trim. they mounted it at the bottom of the shifter bezel.
jsalicru Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Frankly, I wouldn't take your setup to any place like Best Buy or Circuit City. Chances are, they will F IT UP!! I got a CK3000 for my GTi back during the holidays last year and they had a really good deal on it installed... so I figured, shoot that's too good to pass up even on the install so I bought it like that (it was $98 installed). Part of the price went towards the purchase of a wire harness. Ok, so fast forward to it being done. I get in the car, it sounds really dim. I ask about it... "Oh, that's normal." So I say, "There's no way that a company this big would engineer a kit that you cannot hear. No, it's not normal." When the call would come in, there would be a "pop" on the speakers from it switching over... Also, I cannot adjust the volume from the car at all. I know there's something wrong, he insists, its normal. Ok, so that you know, the correct way to install the BT kit on these cars, including the VW, is using only something like 7 wires. The people at Circuit City used more than 16(!).. Oh.. and remember the "wire harness" I bought? They CUT OEM radio harness ON THE CAR SIDE in order to install this. They twisted all the wires together and used black tape to cover the wires. So say that I was pissed would be an understatement. Here's the clincher... On the top part of the stock VW radio there is a wiring harness diagram that shows where the inputs for phone are... they are clearly labeled PHONE + PHONE - Just thought I'd share my experience with what you are likely going to get. A properly installed BT setup on the Legacy needs to have the radio mute itself when a call comes in and read "CALL" on the screen. You should also be able to control the BT kit volume from the radio in the middle of a call. "some say, his arms are made of coiled adamantium fibers. And that he tops his cereal with nuts and bolts. All we know is, he's called the Jose."
TrueWhiteBoy Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Hey! Who are you to question the experts! Hahahaha That MKi series does look pretty sweet, now if only they had a decent all in 1 with GPS (which they might, I didn't really look too hard) Ah that sucks

Good thing it was just a bluetooth kit, I can't even imagine how bad it would have been with a full blown audio install...
subarussian Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 I dont know, maybe the tech who did my install wasn't a moron and didn't represent the general best buy employee...looks and works perfectly fine.

Those look way better than the other Parrot units out! I think I'd like to get one of those, too!!!
