Annoying thing about passenger side wiper refill

Recommended Posts

For those of you that use the stock wiper blades, you may have noticed something very annoying about the passenger side refills. It doesn't seem that properly-fitting refills are available for the passenger side from either Subaru or the aftermarket. Although both driver and passenger wiper blades take refills for "square claws", the passenger side (18") is only available for "trapezoidal claws". You've got to shoe-horn the refill into the blade since the rubber is a bit too wide for the blade.

I guess you could buy two sets of the driver's side blades and cut them down, but I find it annoying that Subaru's own part for the passenger's side is wrong.

Just took one of the Michelin bosch style blades off after it being there for a year. Didn't like it. May be I'm cheap but I feel it didn't last that long for the price.

Today at Advance Auto Parts, took my old OEM drivers blade in and the tech match it up with Trico #47-800 Break to fit wiper blade. I'm sure they must have one to the 18" blade. This one is 24" I slid it into the OEM blade and broke off about 1.5". Two refills for less then $7.00

Two things I didn't like about the Icon style were it stuck up higher then OEM and the bottom 3-4" would would bounce and the glass.

I agree, I've found myself re-aligning the blades a few times because they keep popping out of the clamps. Especially when I pull them up in the winter so they don't stick to the windshield.

I also have the Bosch wipers on my 91, and they don't like to stay put against the windshield while driving around 65 in a steady rain.

They certainly do a better job sweeping away the water, but they are just as useless as OEM blades on the highway.

I saw the Bosch Icons at Pepboys the other day....quite freaking expensive. Any brands people can genuinely say "These are great"? I hate refills and prefer to buy whole new wipers (unless it's like my 06 Honda, whose refills last 30,000+ miles and are idiot-proof to install in about 15 seconds per side).

At 9,000 miles now and I'm thinking it'll be time to buy during winter or right after it....

Bosch Icons are all Season. Snow, Ice, whatever and they last a lot longer then regular blades or refills which makes up for the extra cost.

Yeah I know you don't get that nifty spoiler on the blade like with the GT or XT, and STI but they still are designed to lie flat at high speeds. Well worth it.
