Siper2 Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Hey guys and gals. Judging by these pics, do you think this '05 LGT shifter is the STi kit? To myself and a few other folks, it looks pretty low. The current owner pulled the boot down and said the shifter arm is brass-colored, which at least on the 5MT Impreza kits, would mean STi. I'm not sure if the 5MT Legacy kits are the same color. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/DSC_0038.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/DSC_0015.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/DSC_0013.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/DSC_0014.jpg Thanks. I'm likely buying this car very soon ('05 SWP), and was just curious about the trim. I emailed SoA and they sent me a list of equipment that car was equipped with: SUBWOOFER/AMPLIFIER CENTER ARMREST EXTENSION Sedan Splash Guard Set Spoiler - White ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE LABEL FLOORMATS, CARPETED OFF BLACK 05 LEGACY OIK 05 LEGACY ORG AUTO-DIMMING MIRROR/COMPASS SECURITY SYS. PERIMETER ALARM Which is very cool... The shifter isn't listed, so it could be dealer-installed. Or it might be a generic aftermarket one. Anyway, long story short if it's an off brand I'll eventually rip it out and put a Kartboy in. Thanks, S2
mattg Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 STi shifter linkage doesn't shorten the stalk. So that's either been modified or it has a different SS kit.
Siper2 Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 ^^ Didn't think so. I did a little searchin' in here and a few people said something similar. The Imprezas are about the same.
Siper2 Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Just took some pics of it. It's definitely not STi, the shifter arm is black. Note the nut on the bottom of the arm, is that normal? Maybe a cut OEM shifter? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/Oct12008/DSC_0063.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/Oct12008/DSC_0062.jpg Neutral: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/Oct12008/DSC_0066.jpg 1st: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/Oct12008/DSC_0064.jpg 2nd: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v396/Siper2/2005%20Subaru%20Legacy%20GT%20Limited/Oct12008/DSC_0065.jpg Took those just to see if you guys think the gear positioning looks right. I'm coming from a GC Impreza, so tis all new to me.
CwhillVT Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I have the dealer offered STI STS in my 05 and judging by the first two pics^ that isnt it. On mine the shifter stalk is not offset on the back of the bushing w/ the through bolt. Edit: Take a look at the last pic in post #18 thats an STI sts stalk. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57609&page=2
GTkansan Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 That looks very short. id imagine it is an ebay type short shift lever. The stock lever has ZERO notchiness, does this one have any (everyone i have tried is notchy as hell).
Siper2 Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Oh yeah, muy notchy. Kartboy, here I come.
Siper2 Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 Tom Deadrick at Kartboy says it looks like an old-school Cobb.
Siper2 Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 I just pulled the whole section apart and there was indeed a nut on the threaded portion, which could be loosened to back the threaded portion out (adding height). So it's a little taller now, but still rather notchy. Oh well, I will indeed replace it, but that answers the question for now. Thanks guys and gals.
Dergara Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Could it be a SPT short shifter with linkage that Subaru sells for $249 I have one in my WRX that came on the car from the factory. It is listed as an options on my window sticker. SPT sells this for the Legacy as well for the same price. “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” -Dante Alighieri http://youtu.be/lLFunBPgPOo
Siper2 Posted October 1, 2008 Author Posted October 1, 2008 No. SPT shifter is non-adjustable, and also has a brass-colored lever. Or at least they were brass for the 5MT, before.
