so i have a 2006 spec-b with 55k miles..

i let a friend of mine drive it home the other day (who drives a 06 G35 6MT) assuming that he knows how to drive stick and now my clutch is RUINED..

bottom line.. i need to get a new clutch..

the guy at the shop told me that i dont need a new flywheel, but i might have to if i wanted to go aftermarket..

ive done my research but im still lost..

ive seen SPEC, ACT, etc etc with ACT + WRX OEM FW being most popular (can i say that.. ?)

i want to save as much $$ as possible so any suggestions?

whats the cheapest yet as good as or better than stock solution?

I read alot of negative comments about the ACT. I've been going through the same thing, my clutch with 98k on it just went sunday. after a day or so of pondering I decided to stay OEM since my only upgrades ever will be exhaust and suspension.

if I went aftermarket I liked what i read on the spec

258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos

What is wrong with the clutch is it slipping, completely gone or what.

I had a guy at the body shop haze teh crap out of my clutch. I took it easy for a couple days and the slipping went away.

If it doesn't get any better, I recommend Spec.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

really? ive read 99% positive comments.

ive heard of bad stuff from all makes, SPEC,exedy,CM its just the web makes things go out of proportion. if done right you shouldnt have any problems.

but the least ive heard is problems from ACT.

your going to need a 06-07 wrx aftermarket clutch, but to get it to work with your car you need the fw as well.

alot of people go lighter some dont, imo light is awesome. its transforms the car more than most mods ive seen...

i have a BRAND NEW gruppe s flywheel i might sell if your intirested $200 shipped in the USA.

i dont want to sell it but i dont have funds to do my clutch yet so ill prolly just free up some cash and buy the same fw later down the road.

pm me if you like.

I have a spec stageII+ clutch and spec LWF. Have loved it every since i installed it about 15K ago on my 5mt. In the qt mile i dropped a half second from clutch flywheel and up alone. But LWF is not for everyone. It does dramatically change the characteristics of the car.

I second GT Subie with respect to hazing/glazing the clutch. When I first got my 05 LGT (w/ 32,000 KM) I glazed it by accident within the first week... I thought that clutch was gone, previous owner had used the car occassionally for towing a small boat. Clutch would slip in 4th and 5th...

Per advise in these forums, I took it really easy on the car for a couple of days and it seemed to be ok... started to get hard on it again and the clutch started slipping pretty bad in 4th and 5th.

I tried again, took it easy on the clutch for close to a week and clutch has held up fine, 1 year later and 20,000 KM no problems. I'd try driving like Grandma for 3+ days (I know, it's hard to control that right foot) and then see how it works out.
