stanjk3 Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Battery is 4 years old, but the car cranks just fine. Engine sounds fine for the ~10 seconds is runs, then it just dies. I've only put on ~15K miles in the 3.5 years I've had the car. Had a 60K miles service done 3 years ago, so the fuel filter should still be good. Spark plugs and wires were changed just after I got the car. I'm not getting any CELs, even checked it with my scanner anyways, but no codes. Of course I'm having car problems when the wife is dogsitting at her parent's house. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
icrackedcorn Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 check vacuums, specifically: idle bypass obedience to church and state is subjugation to the unjust authority of men
stanjk3 Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 There's this small metal box with 4 metal lines coming out of it on top, it sits of right in front of the air filter box. I checked the air filter, it's still pretty clean. Could I have knocked something lose when I put the air filter box back together? The MAF sensor is still connected. Where can I get some engine diagrams? I have no idea where the idle bypass or vacuum lines are. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
icrackedcorn Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 look for a haynes manual or something for your vehicle specific info heres picks form an ej22. should be close http://legacygt.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1966169&postcount=6 obedience to church and state is subjugation to the unjust authority of men
99SUS SFD Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 The vacuum line he's talking about goes underneath the intake itself and is rubber. Should be about 3/4" in diameter.
stanjk3 Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 Did notice a hissing sound. Sounds like its coming from the left side of the engine, can't really pinpoint it when the engine only runs for 10 seconds. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
icrackedcorn Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 yep. i bet that's it. if it wont run or stay idling, even with some throttle blipping, its totally disconnected, and should be pretty visible i had that damn thing pop off while i was driving. not fun you might try this if you must search with your ears... disconnect the wires from the maf the car will figure that the maf is bunk and enter limp mode fix your problem reconnect maf reset ecu or have autozone clear your codes or whatever obedience to church and state is subjugation to the unjust authority of men
stanjk3 Posted September 15, 2008 Author Posted September 15, 2008 Turns out it was the vacuum hose that connects to the bottom of the air intake, just after the MAF sensor. Somehow it came loose when I was checking the air filter. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
99SUS SFD Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I figured as much. Same thing happened to me when I installed my new intake. Car started up and ran fine the first time. Turned it off and tried again...stalled. Took a look under the hood and that was the problem. Glad you got it fixed.
SLegacy99 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Good to know as the same thing will probably happen to me one day.
jonklein611 Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Been there done that, thankfully its an easy fix.
