k8ctt Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I have read (unreliable source) that the Active AWD 4EAT transmission actually provides a 50/50 torque split in 1st and reverse and changes to the normal 90/10 split after shifting into 2nd gear under normal acceleration and road conditions. Is this true? Does this have anything to do with the 'relay clicking noise' that I hear when the car almost comes to a complete stop? The noise appears to be coming from the center console. 2007 Legacy 2.5i Limited
ShadowImg Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 My understanding is that the 50/50 split only occurs when you manually put the transmission into '1', but not when in D and the transmission is in 1st for normal driving. I'm honestly not sure though.
fishbone Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 The relay clicking noise I've had on other previous cars, to put it in simple terms it's the switch-thingie-do that when you're rolling it will prevent you from slamming the gear selector in R or P. You hear it click when you're almost stopped and after you do, you can drop it in P or R. Far as my dealer(s) and I figured it, basically the switch gets normal "wear and tear" and, although you can't hear it at first, it will get noisy with time. Guess the LGT has the same crappy cheap part my 3rd gen auto Altima did. They both started clicking at around the same mileage, although the LGT is not nearly as loud or obvious as the Alty was. Later edit: heh, should have read the thread title more careful ... You are talking about the 4EAT. Edited my reply. What's your source? Could be right, could be wrong.
ShrinerMonkey Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He is talking about the 4EAT, read his post again.
fishbone Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Figured that out as you posted Force of habit I guess, you seldom get 4EAT questions around here.
IanB Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 Bumping an old thread, but has anyone here tried this: http://www.rs25.com/forums/f8/t99075-4eat-diff-lock-switch-handbrake-mod-torquemada-lite.html Wire in a switch to lock center diff at 50/50! Edit, this thread isn't going to get any action likely, I'll start my own.
