Scooby Fan Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I installed an AVO washable filter in my '06 LGT at about 10,000 kms and was concerned it may not filter as well as the OEM product. I now have just over 30,000 kms on the car and have the results of a very simple test that I did when it was installed. I took a small patch of double sided tape (I work in the golf industry and it is the tape used to put grips on golf clubs) and put it on the inside of the air box "Behind" the filter with the exposed sticky part directly in the airflow. I cleaned the filter today with warm water and inspected the inside test patch. The inside of the airbox seemed spotless and the patch of tape had no dirt stuck to it at all....none visible to the human eye anyway. The outer part of the airbox was very dusty/dirty and the water from washing the filter was filthy....looked like chocolate milk:rolleyes: Easy test and puts your mind at ease concerning the filter quality. AVO FTW:)
f1anatic Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I wash my filter every 3000 miles or so. 20,000 km is a long way to go with a clogged filter. At least where I live.
Scooby Fan Posted September 13, 2008 Author Posted September 13, 2008 Actually the interval recommended by AVO is 10,000 miles....5000 in "Dusty/Sandy conditions" .......The distance I drove during this time was appox. 11,000 miles and the filter was definitely not clogged, but it was doing a great job....and continues to do so. :)
snow05gtRI Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 nice, thanks for testing. good to see user done tests
Gmoe Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Cool.. Glad to hear the AVO stands up and works well. I'm dude for another cleaning of my AVO here pretty soon. How long do you let yours dry after cleaning before reinstalling/driving? I was all paranoid the last time and let it sit overnight. Seems overkill since water gets in there when it rains anyway.

It was a beautiful hot sunny day...washed it and let it sit in the sun until I finished waxing and detailing the LGT.....I couldn't feel any dampness...in it went. Probably 2 hours:rolleyes: BTW...my Legacy has the AVO full CBE also...awesome set-up.....AVO in and AVO out :) http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/RM-RS/AVOfull.jpg
Dergara Posted September 14, 2008 Posted September 14, 2008 Have you been happy with your Kumho tires? “Abandon hope, all ye who enter here” -Dante Alighieri http://youtu.be/lLFunBPgPOo
Scooby Fan Posted September 14, 2008 Author Posted September 14, 2008 Yes and no....I liked them fine, but we also bought an '06 Impreza 2.5i for my wife at the same time and I put them on the Impreza on Enkei wheels. When they wore out I replaced them, on the Impreza, with Nokian WR G2s. AWESOME!! :):)The LGT has been on Pirelli P Zero-Neros since then....225/40/18's on 18x8 OZ Racing Crono HT's...Love them!!. All in all the Kuhmos ASX's are probably the best tires on the matket $$$ for $$$ I would buy more Kuhmo ASXs in a heartbeat......great A/S tires....but NOT snowtires.
