LUKEGT03 Posted August 14, 2008 Share Posted August 14, 2008 First of all this is not a stock setup i did have alot done to this and it is now parted out. It does still have the Maryland Turbo Solutions RPS clutch kit installed with an ACT Streetlite Flywheel and a replaced when installed but still OEM part throwout bearing. Alright folks did a search and i have looked at mine closer than most of the other people who created threads so i was hoping to get some help. I was on my way to work tonight and i noticd it was hard to gt into first when i pulled out of my driveway. Well then i had to stop at a light. I got it into first but it was hard to get it into first again. I left the light then went to push the clutch in to get into second and noticed the clutch didnt push out like normal. Well then i went to put it into third and i got it in there but i had to literally pull the pedal out with my foot. So i left it in third until i knew if i couldnt get it into gear again i could coast to a parking lot. Needless to say it wouldnt go into gear at all at this point and my pedal is dead. So a friend and i went to look at it and the hydraulic cylinder piston is not touching the shift fork when the clutch pedal is out. My hydraulic fluid was low but i have added some and pumped the clutch. We got it into second and i got it home but with the clutch pushed in it still wants to roll forward. It will only go into gear with the engine off because there are no moving parts i assume. The shift fork seems like it may be shifted back some. Also the piston is especially shiny and new looking when as far out as it can go, like it has never seen daylight. So here are the questions. Could a completely screwed throwout bearing cause this due to the bearing being stuck in one position or another? Could it be the hydraulic cylinder? PhilT Posted August 14, 2008 Share Posted August 14, 2008 This is unspeakably weird !!!! The exact same thing happened to me yesterday on the way home from work. I had the car flat bedded to the garage and found the problem this morning, The small dimple that rod pushes against on the fork had pushed its way through the fork completely. LUKEGT03 Posted August 14, 2008 Author Share Posted August 14, 2008 yeah i have ordered a new throw out bearing today and it should be in tomorrow. The RPS clutch takes a hell of a lot of pedal pressure to engage it so it doesnt really suprise me that it punched through. I called Subaru service at my local dealer and they said a throwout bearing stuck in one position could also cause this problem but we will see if i have a punched fork when i drop the tranny this weekend. Well folks she was punched through just waiting on the new fork and pivot bolt. (the bolt seemed slightly worn andit was 9 bucks so why not) My bearing is ridiculously dead too. We are going to modify the new fork to make it stronger on the back side so hopefully this wont happen again. Im thinking a small plate welded to the back would hold her over for a while. PhilT Posted August 23, 2008 Share Posted August 23, 2008 That's exactly what I am doing too. The fork is pressed out from a single sheet of steel, so it is inherently weak where the dimple is. With stock weight clutches it would probably last a lifetime, but with the RPS heavy weight clutch it gets seriously stressed.
