Safer for 07-08: Stock map or Cobb Stage 1

Hi all,

Just wanted to do a gut check with some of the experts on this forum: From what you've seen, which is safer for the LGT's long-term running/reliability: The stock programming or Cobb Stage 1 (i.e. just a reflash).

I've heard that the stock map is "scary", but that the Cobb map isn't great either. I've read consistently that the Cobb map greatly smooths out power delivery, eliminates some hiccups, and provides a nice, tangible power gain across the band.

I just signed up for a Subaru Mastercard to gain Subaru Bucks. My first purchase will be a Cobb Short Shifter, but I was thinking about buying an AccessPort or Sway Bars next. Sway bars would've been my first choice, but it seems like:

A. Cobb Sway bars prior to new tires may not be a wonderful idea due to traction limitations.

B. It may better suit the long-term reliability of my Subaru if I go with a Cobb AP Stage 1 reflash.

Thanks for any and all input.

For long term reliability stay with the Subaru map until the powertrain warranty is up. If you are completey stock engine wise there is no reason to be denied warranty, Cobb flash there is. The current Cobb maps for the 07-08 LGT's aren't the greatest, from what I have read they are being somewhat revised.

I logged the stock map, the cobb stag1 maps, the rallitek stage1 maps and none would run properly. Regarless of which of these maps I ran I always had knock around 3800RPM. I ended up getting a protune and now the car runs as it should with more power and no knock. I can't utilize my SI drive anymore but thats another issue.

So in a nutshell all these maps aren't great but the driveability of the cobb stag1 maps was really nice, their throttle mappings are so much nicer than the stock subaru ones. The Rallitek maps made much more power.

If you have a protuner close to you I would say jump on the opportunity, for 300$ it is well worth it.

So lets say you load the rallitek map. then take it to a tuner to further tune the car, does this "fine tune" stay on the AP incase you have to reflash to stock and then back to the tune? or do you have to take it back for the protune?

It will be saved to your AP then saved to you computer as well once you sync the two.
