SpawnGT Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 So i have an XO2 catback, and the rest is Crucial Catless. I think i just might be bored with the boy racer loud exhaust sound, and i think i might be going to put my stock mufflers on to baffle the sound out. Has anyone else gotten bored, and decided to go quieter after being with a loud exhaust? Has anyone thought of or installed or designed any kind of spring louded/pressure loaded mechanisms like the GTI's and Vette's have that would allow for miniimal noise at idle, and only when you really get on it does it really get loud?
whobaru Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 There are electronic mufflers you can put inline with your exhaust. They're made to trick cops when you drive by.

Have had two of them, they are really nice to have dont get me wrong, but at this point i want something alil more "level headed" something like the r32 has, where you sound normal unless you really punch then the shit opens up. I dont want to have to wait 5 seconds to sound the crazy sexy loud sound come out.
korpsepatrol Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I currently use the x02 with stock mufflers. Its good and quiet, however i kinda at times wonder if i would have liked the x02 cans on it better. Thats just me. 2008 6mt Legacy Gt Spec B DGM - Not so Stock/Work in progress 2006 5mt Legacy Gt OBP - Sold 2005 5eat Legacy Gt OBP - RIP R.I.P Coxx
hutru01 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I recently put on my stock exhaust for the time being. Sold the greddy evo2. I am hogzausted at the moment and its still quiet compared to the Greddy. LOL I am planning on doing a custom mid and y pipe (stainless steel) all the way back to the stock mufflers....planning on painting the stock mufflers black and leaving the chrome tips...
hutru01 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 oh and I also thought about an e cutout just to scare the shit out of ppl on the interstate
SpawnGT Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 See the funny thing is when i had my first e-cutout i installed it for the sole purpose of being a 19 year old with a car bought by his parents(half way at least) and wanted to do nothing to upset them or start an argument with them. There were definitly complaints on my part regarding having the cutout right under my passengers feet, to me there was certain degrees of openness that made the car sound either amazing, or absolutly horrible. If it was open 20% to 40% it sounded like an Sti-defintily louder the XO2 catback. but anything more then 50% open and it sounded somethign along the lines of a cummins turbo diesel wth straight pipes. Ive also had an exhaust set up where the MID was Catted, and the resonater in place with straight pipes, and that sounded awesome...quite aggressive, but after getting pulled over after basically slowly accelerating from 0-30 mph. The officer was like "son, i see you have a very nice car, but why did you have to accelerate so fast". I guess stg2 and 4am=fast, who knows. At this point i was thinking of doing something alil on the Un-oridinary, possibly trying something that would be a unique installation, i was thinking of installing something like this Crucial DP--> Decatted MP--> XO2 Y-pipe-->Left side stock Muffler --> Right Side: Straight pipe WITH EWG built into it somehow(yes fabrication will be necessary)- and having the EWG open up at high Boost, i would just have to get a T-pipe and install it into the BOV hose.
hutru01 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Thanks for the feedback. I am not even sure if the e-cutout is even worth the extra amount of hp that you get from have a straight pipe. Although, having a large turbo, I might see a difference. I go pulled over for the same thing when I had my Greddy EVO2. Hence the reason I switched back to stock.
SC GT Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I just sold my Megan CBE and went back to stock. Thought I was going to miss the sound and was thinking I'd Hogzaust, but I'm liking the quiet stock sound and am going to stick with it. I also got rid of all of my power mods -- only have suspension -- and am surprisingly happy with the stock power as well.
hutru01 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 ^ Very mature decision, no way I would go back to stock though....
Beanboy Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Running stock CBE with a 20G. Oh so very quiet and sleeperish. Might at somepoint fiddle with new y-pipe, but I'm not in any rush to make a little more power and a little more noise. Will wait for the Subaru Bucks to roll on in, maybe this winter. -B http://www.standardshift.com
SpawnGT Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 what is the official official HP number difference between a full catless catbac, and a full catless catback but with stock exhausts? it cant be more then what 5hp? ideally thinking the pipes of the mufflers are 1.75 inches in dimeter, and 2.4inches in area. therefore if you think about it having the stock mufflers is like a 2.5inch straight exhaust on a STI.
hutru01 Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 ^ Thats food for thought. With my setup, it might be a difference of 10whp, but I wouldn't really know, my ride has never been on a dyno.

The only thing modded with my car will the sways, shocks/springs and maybe the wheels.
JOE_1985 Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 i have the borla system, has a low toned grumble to it but not loud by any means, now my other 2 vehicles
SpawnGT Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 i just checked out one of my stock mufflers and it seems to be filled u with water, and im not talking about a droplet or two, im talking abut like a liter or so of water in there. how would one go about emptying it of the water? do i just dropp a hole at the bottom of it?

SpawnGT Posted May 15, 2008 Author Posted May 15, 2008 no, quite the opposite, i havnt had the mufflers on the car in over 7 months and i think they were like this when i took them off, i remember shakign them around and feeling they were wierd, but now they are definitly filled with water(just one)
scoobydoobie Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 i have the borla system, has a low toned grumble to it but not loud by any means, now my other 2 vehicles stock up/dp? I've been thinking about the borla bc of the low volume, just wondering how much this increases with a catless UP/HFC DP. does anybody have a sound clip of an LGT with aftermarket UP/DP/MID/Y but stock cans? curious to hear how this sounds...
