Rear differential fried

Last week, my 2005 LGT started making a combination of a whooshing/clunking noise whenever I press on the gas pedal while in any gear. It sounded like an exhaust leak or a cracked manifold. It quickly got really loud to a point I can hear clearly with all windows closed.

I left it my favorite subaru dealer and after a couple of hours, Mike called me with the bad news. They found metal filings in the rear differential and the right rear wheel bearing is shot.

I have 67000 miles on the odo.

 

Good thing I have extended warranty.

The wheel bearing would have been covered by the warranty extension Subaru sent out last week.
