how much to get a lgt around 350-400 hp?

hi, i currently own a b5 s4, with about 340-350hp. its a perfect car when nothing is wrong with it, but its not very reliable at all and it costs sooo damn much to repair, ive spent 8000 just in repairs in the last 2.5 years, plus a bit more on normal maintainance.

anyway im looking for a similar car, the legacy gt is very similar in size, maybe a little slower performance wise, and almost as luxorious. i havent driven one yet but i plan to soon.

anyway ive heard there is a gt35r turbo kit for somewhat cheap, and im not sure if it fits on the lgt or not? i really dont know much about it, just heard it from my sti friend.

so im looking to spend around 20k buying the car and modifying it right away, plus more money later on when i can afford it.

for under 20k what all could i do? i was hoping to get to atleast 350 hp, and some nice suspension. is that realistic?

and whats the handling like with suspension? i was hoping to get a wagon, i am just a bit concerned about handling as its a huge concern to me(i hate soft mushy feeling cars) i race shifter karts/some scca srf races, so im fine with extremely stiff and rigid rides.

the other cars im looking at are an r32, sti, evo, s60r. ive driven an r32, it was underpowered and would need alot of mods, and the bad thing is that modding it can get expensive. but the handling is amazing and its probably one of the most fun cars ive driven.

an evo is my top choice along with a lgt, its fast fun and other than its looks its exactly my kind of car. and i think id much rather have a super sleeper lgt than a sti any day.

so if you could help me out with any knowledge you might have about modding these cars, or your say in what i should choose for a car would be great.

keep in mind that i live in the mountains where snow is on the ground 90% of the time in winter, and roads can get rough, and i frequently like to do a bit of "rallying" on the dirt roads around here.

my tastes in cars dont match too well, i like really track/race ready cars, but i also like european luxory and looks, its hard to find a good match.

LOL!, ya I owned a real $4/// Audi back in 93 and mod'd that to around 400hp and things started to go south, so of course I ditched it after making it stock again. Audi's are such an overpriced car to keep running stock let alone bump'd up.

Not sure about 400hp reliable in a Legacy, but you can easily get it there. The tranny is what would scare me. I have a friend with a 400-500hp WRX and he goes through tranny/diff/axle parts like crazy. Of course I keep telling the dumb bastard you can't do a 6k dump at every stop light and expect it to last..

A good ECU, turbo/manifold, IC, injectors, fuel pump, suspension and you'll hve 10k pretty easy and another 10k unless you can do the work...... Now, unless you can do most of the work, don't do this. First and foremost mistakes, having someone else do the work and you'll never understand whats going on when issues come up, because trust me, they will. Its not rocket science. Do it yourself.

k thanks for the help, im not looking for a straight line machine, i want much more of an all around, track type car, so im not looking to get as much power as possible, and i wont be launching it, so hopefully the tranny would hold up. if the tranny does go out can you get a sti 6 speed to fit? isnt that what the spec b has?

and does anyone possibly have a link to the red wagon that guy is selling?

350-400 hp to the wheels?

if you mean 350 crank, get a 20g turbo with supporting mods and for power you'll be in and out in about 5 grand.

of course you'll need to upgrade other things to keep up.

i actually got the legacy because it felt a lot like my cousins biturbo s4. i bet subaru benchmarked that car for the legacy. anyway only thing you really lose is the brand prestige if you move over.

you will also lose your "intimate" relationship with the audi mechanic

car for sale. PM me!

Figure $7k-$10k for the motor, and if you're the sort of person who is willing to spend that much on the motor, then you're probably the sort of person who will also spend $2k-$6k on handling too.

i am sure on stock turbo one can get 350chp. people hit 270whp now. calculate drive loss that is most def 350chp. if you simply want a very solid 350chp or a little more...vf40-18 would do it. that is a very far cry from 5k.

700 for turbo, 700 for tmic, 700 for ap. 2100 so far. am fairly certain one can get a tune and labor etc..out the door for about 5k. with that...380 or a 420 can be dropped in just as easy should money allow it.

according to fp a 20g will give 350+Whp not crank.

OK -- First of all, if you are looking for 350-400 chp, your target should be achievable in getting a used LGT and modding it. Other responders are assuming you want to spend $20k on mods -- I don't think that's what you are planning.

If you want 350-400 whp, your funds are gonna be a little short, I think...

Second, if you think you can get an R32, STi, Evo or S60r and mod to 400hp for under $20k, pass me what you're smoking!

So many options under 5K or even less if you buy used. With that much you can easily get into the 325+ whp range with a good tune.

Don't forget Fuel mods to support the powa (necessary once beyond stock turbo, no?) + intake & exhaust. If he wants used LGT + mods for under $20k, he's gotta look at 05 or 06 which means he might need UP as well as DP.

He's also asked about suspension for 1st mods -> coilovers, sways, maybe brakes (Tires?!?)... $25k might be a better initial target on spend to get a good trackable car. I'm learning, but I'm not an expert so my $0.02 might not be worth even that (especially after the Bush monetary policy destroyed the American dollar! :spin:).

Or there's always the option of buying a nicely modded 05/06 from ppl on the forums. I've a few very well modded LGT's in that range on here. Just gotta keep the eyes open. :)

If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off.

As someone suggested keep an eye out for existing ,modified cars for sale on this sight. A killer wagon was mentioned, it avaiable for 20K with all the work done. If this is where your going let someone else have spent the time and money.
