Can you guys offer any advice on a downpipe? I was looking at several choices:

  • Invidia Divorced Watsegate Catless DP (about $300)
  • Megan Racing Catless DP (Least Exspensive, about $200)
  • Cobb Catted DP ($500)

Also keep in mind I have to mate it with a Perrin CBE.

Do you think there is any advantage to using a divorced waste gate?

Please help.

Thanks,

Ben

Any particular reason you are comparing catted and non-catted? Cobb does have a non-catted version

Not really, I've decided to go with a catless.

I really am just curious about the divorced wastegate. I have spoken to perrin, they said that it is not necessary for the LGTs because of the wastegate design and others I've spoken to swear by it. Any thoughts?

Doesn't make a shit of difference and anyone who produces a twin dump or split bell mouth DP couldn't show you any intangible difference between theirs and a run of the mill bellmouth.

You are incorrect sir. COBB discontinued making the catless down pipe. Unless you are able to source a used one or a left over new one from a vendor but then good luck. cuz i was unable to source one.

Keep in mind the review section. It is there for that reason. The COBB DP uses a doughnut gasket. and the perrin CBE is a flat flange. so minor modifications will have to made to mate the two. might want to look into the invidia sold by thekingofparts. Save yourself some hassle though and search as well. I have covered this topic as well as others a hundred times.

I have a thread dedicated to the mating of the COBB to the XO2 ( same flange as the perrin ):)

OTM.

Sorry I didn't mean to start a war which mainly forum people is all about ;).

I have an 05 LGT 5 mt and will do the down/uppipes soon. My experience with the WRX 2 l motor is that the Invidia divorced wastegate design worked slightly better for low end than the Cobb (Both were the catted versions). May not be much of a factor with the LGt 2.5 motor

Are you sure? I just saw this yesterday one their website.....

The COBB Tuning downpipe comes in two variants, street and race. The Street version comes with a single high flow catalytic converter, where the Race version downpipe lacks the cat, thereby freeing up an additional 1-3hp over the catted version. The Race version is recommended for dedicated track use. The downpipe is the first step to any enthusiast looking to unlock the potential of their engine, while still maintaining a stock look around their vehicle.

I may buy the cobb catted because I hate a flatulent smelling car. Unless this race version has better flow somehow than a gutted stock pipe you are probably better of just using a hollow stock unit.

^^^ Cobb stopped making a catless version of their DP about 6-12 months or so ago. They DID produce both and I'm sure that is why you can find reference to a catless DP.

I tried unsuccessfully to buy a catless Cobb DP about 6 months ago. Tried a number of vendors but nobody had any catless in stock.

Check Cobb's website and you'll see that a catless DP is no longer an option.

I am very happy with my Cobb DP.
