Got a 30 gallon compressor for my birthday!

Recommended Posts

So my son talked my wife into buying me a Husky 30 gallon compressor with a tool package for my birthday. It's oilless and fairly quiet. What do I need to get now to upgrade a bit. Do I need an inline oiler for the tools. Whose sockets are good and reasonably priced? Etc.

inline oiler? nah. Just a few drops each time you use your tool.

Don't forget to drain the tank after each use. Don't want water/rust in the tank.

Also, I highly highly reccomend a bolt-down hose reel. Get the nice rubber hose (you'll thank me) and a reel...and the hassle of putting hose away will become a joy.

I'm pleasantly surprised... It was most certainly worth the couple bucks and 10 mins of my time.

Oilless is quiet but it wont last as long. =( However based on your post, you probably wont be using it too much so it should still last a long time. Hogmeat is right too, each time u use a tool oil it, just a few drops. If you go to anyplace that sells air tools u will be able to get oil specifically made for air tools.

Oh also. High Quality hose helps. You can buy stuff thats cheap, but it kinks and is hard to bend were you want it to go. Buying polyurethane hose with a good Psi rating will make u a happy camper.

Brad nailer's, framing nailer's, air sockets......man air compressors make life so much easier! You'll love it!

So as a complete noob, I can't figure out how to use this thing. When I plug the impact wrench in and squeeze the trigger, air comes out of the gun, but it doesn't spin the wratchet. What am I doing wrong? Also, how do I limit the compressor to 90 PSI?

If you bought a cheap compressor, or rather really nice powerful tools, you may not have enough FLOW through the compressor. Yah, that's what they don't tell you about. 150PSI? Big deal. You need the flow metric (I think 9.0 is good) to actually RUN your tools.

Fact is, the tools CAME WITH the compressor, so they ought to work just fine. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I have the compressor set to 90 PSI on "heavy" duty.

Hmm, got a 2wheel dolly or something you can use a gauge and try inflating a tire with? Maybe you're not making pressure for some reason. It sure sounds like the problem I had with not engaging the drive direction on them, but you've verified that. I'm not sure, but i'm intrigued!

I'm making plenty of pressure. Tank pressure goes to beyond 120 psi. Air coming out of tools has mucho force. Just did another test. Die grinder, air chisel, and inflation pump all work properly. 1/2 Impact gun and 3/8" wratchet wrench won't spin.

I'll have to take them back to Home Depot, but I think I should check them at a service station first.

good idea... test them on somebody else's tank that works or if you have a friend with an impact driver that works try it on your tank

Story ends. I got the impact wrench running by turning the shaft back and forth a few times. Finally caught. Not so with the ratchet. Took it back to HD. They gave me a Husky ratchet which was better than the one that came with the compressor and sent the other back to the vendor. Called it an RTV. New one worked fine right out of the box. Tore an R160 diff. apart in about 2 minutes. Air is great!
