Performance Brake Upgrades For NA's

Recommended Posts

Seeing as apparently the GT's have different brakes than us NA guys and nobody makes any drilled/slotted rotors for NA's I called the parts manager at my local Suby dealership and he provided me with a list of brake parts that will fit on any NA from 2005-2008.

FRONT BRAKE PADS

2005-2007 WRX

REAR BRAKE PADS

2000-2008 Legacy NA's

FRONT ROTORS

2003-2006 Forester NA's

REAR ROTORS

2000-2007 Legacy/Outback NA's (even 3.0R)

check your warranty... your 3yr/36k mile warranty includes brake pad replacement.

There are at least 4 firms I know from memory that make rotors for the SE. You have done little to no searches. eg. Power slot, DBA, R1concepts, Raceshopper.com.

All you need to do is look up the size rotor you have and go from there.

Also if you go to Hawk's application list you'll see the compatibilities.

SEARCH is your friend.

you just need better pads and tires. You dont need better rotors since your stopping is only in a matter of a few seconds on a course.

trust me ;)

I'm in the process of ordering DBAs for my 2.5i. If your interested in getting them, here are the part numbers:

Fronts: 4648

Rears: 4653

PERFECT THREAD!

Correct me if I am wrong, but would the WRX 4 and 2 pots provide any improvement in braking, or would I be better off buying HP+ pads with LGT calipers? I do have a set of performance tires on order.

there are a lot of options; Searching in the brakes forum will broaden your horizons.

The std BE has 10.7 vented F and 11.3 R, the GT has 11.4 vented F and 11.3 rear. If you use the FMSI numbers, you'll see a lot of the compatibilities. HPS pads are a great upgrade.

Have fun

anytime. either in this thread or pm is fine.

BTW what size wheels are you using and is yours a GT wagon?

I kept my 16's for winter tires, so that restricted me as to changes in rotor size.

I had Hawk HPS pads and SS lines put on Friday...a very worthy upgrade gents. As a word to the wise you need the 6 line type of SS lines vs. the 4 line my rear lines won't be in until next week because of this unknown issue.

Anyone know if the rear rotors for the 2.5i are the same for the LGT? I was on 1stsubaruparts.com ordering OEM LGT front rotors, looked at the rear rotors and noticed they were not N/A or LGT specific. I'm upgrading to rear LGT calipers, do I need to replace the OEM 2.5i rotor?

Please help!

Hey Paul, I'm pretty sure the LGT rotors are bigger than the 2.5i. According to DBA's rotor catalogue, the part #'s are completely different. On top of that, they dont even make anything for the 2.5i rears.

The wrx brakes are an upgrade for the 2.5's. The Legacy GT brakes are an even bigger upgrade. We have different rotors/calibers/brackets/pads than the lgt's. If you still have the stock calipers, you gotta get the 2.5 specific pads/rotors.

In short:

2.5i < wrx < lgt

Yeahhh thats what I'm hearing also. Decided to just stick with OEM LGT rotors for now, maybe upgrade to DBAs later. I needed to do this sooner than I had planned for, and there is really no need to spend twice as much for a rotor.
