griffin84 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Hey guys. I'm trying to replace the rear strut and i'm having some trouble. Everything was going fine until i tried to remove the top bolt of the strut. It seems like you need to remove the entire back seating to get to the damn bolt. I couldn't find any way to get to it from the trunk and just by eyeing it up it seems like it is directly behind the the seat cushioning. Does anyone have any advice?
nd4mr2spd Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 you must have the sedan - I just replaced mine this last week (wagon) - don't bother trying to remove the large center bolt until you've removed the entire strut assembly from the car first - (the 3 nuts that bolt directly to the top shock tower + the lower bolts / brake line clip on the bottom side connecting to the hub assembly - use an impact gun on the center bolt and just a set of channel locks to hold the shock shaft while you're taking that nut off. (you'll need a strut spring compressor too (checker will rent it to you for free w/just requiring a refundable security deposit)
griffin84 Posted April 23, 2008 Author Posted April 23, 2008 Yeah, sorry its a sedan. The strut was completely broken, so i got the lower portion of the strut assembly off but i'm still having trouble with top portion (the 3 nuts). My question at this point is, where do i have to go to get to those nuts? do i have take my back seating out or can you get to them from under the car?
dplacen Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 The back seats have to come out. Not hard to do at all. First take the buttom part off then the back. 2 bolts holding the buttom part and 3 holding the back. then you just fold the center and pull up.
